Hello everyone!
In researching how best to transport CBER Cloud, I came across an easy system for transport and quotes. The websites below take down your information and then send it to a bunch of haulers who compete for your transport business. Some of the sites have a form to fill out, others require an email sent to the email addy provided with your information. (For the email, use the subject line: Horse Transport from [city and zipcode], to [city and zipcode]. )
Here's Cloud's example:
"Hello, I'm looking for reliable, safe transport for my horse. My horse is a 14 hh, 16 year old Arabian gelding needing transport from (city) WA, (zipcode) to (city) AZ, (zipcode)"
You can let them know what you prefer -- email replies only, phone only, or both. Also, you can let them know a specific transport date you have in mind.
I also recommend asking for customer references. I found the references (and people) very kind and helpful. Many will even speak to you on the phone, if you want to be extra sure the reference is a real person/farm/ranch unaffiliated with the transport.
Here is the list of transport quote sites:
travelinghorse.com
easyhorseship.com
uship.com
horsehauling.com
findahauler.com

In the past, with great satisfaction and an unbeatable price, I hauled my pmu rescue gelding Mr. Bean with Hauled Right, a woman-run company that was *wonderful*. I would've used them for Cloud, but they didn't have a run to WA until December. The contact is Lisa:

I hauled CBER Cloud with Thunder Horse Transport. They too were wonderful -- The owner of the company is Mike Mitchell, and he actually does the hauling with another man named Neil. They talked to me daily while transporting Cloud, and were gentle and kind with Cloud, just like their references raved. Cloud was so attached to these men he cried to them as they left, and hung his head for a day afterwards, missing them.
Kim is Thunder Horse Transport's contact, and she is wonderful about emailing or calling you back with any questions or concerns.
thtransport@yahoo.com
Their website:
thunderhorsetransport.com/index.html
I couldn't have been happier with Mike Mitchell's truck, the transport trailer (OMG, just beautiful! And even Shawna, a lifelong horse person, was impressed enough to ask for business cards and will use them in the future) and these lifelong horsemen. Could listen to Mike's twang for hours, lol!
I took a photo of the two men in front of their transport for their website, I'll post it in this thread (with help, lol!). Also have photos of the inside. If you use Thunder Horse, please do tell them Em and Cloud sent you!
Lastly, as common courtesy, please do email/call back any company who contacts you either way.
If you have any questions not covered here, please do PM me.
Em
