~ From the Humane Society of Missouri ~
Thanks to You, Missouri Senate Fails to Pass HB 46! Animal lovers like you helped stop a dangerous bill in the Missouri legislature this year.
Earlier this spring, we contacted you about HB 46, which would have made it more difficult for law enforcement to rescue abused and neglected horses and other large animals in Missouri. For more information on HB 46, please click here.
In response to our alert, Humane Society supporters sent more than 1,500 e-mails, faxes, and phone calls to Missouri State Senators - thank you!
The Senate brought HB 46 up for discussion during the last week of the legislative session and then laid the bill over without a vote. The 2007 Legislative Session ended on Friday, May 18 without further action on the bill. If the opposition wants to pass this bill next year, they will have to start from the beginning.
Constituent pressure on legislators can have a strong effect on which bills they bring up for a vote. For that reason, we are grateful for the many messages our supporters sent in opposition to this bill.
This Missouri legislature will not meet again until January 2008. We will continue to update you on pending legislation that would affect the welfare of animals.
Thank you for your support of animals in need.
Sincerely, Kathryn Warnick President Humane Society of Missouri"

I love this line:
"Constituent pressure on legislators can have a strong effect on which bills they bring up for a vote."
