FROM HSUS - ACTION NEEDED TODAY WEDS 7/18
For years you have loyally stood with us as we’ve battled to end the brutal slaughter of horses for human consumption. Tomorrow the fight to save our horses comes to a critical juncture in the House Appropriations committee. Currently, the 2008 Agriculture spending bill includes language that halts all government spending on the practice of slaughtering horses for human consumption. We need to make sure that the final version of the bill retains this important provision.
IMPORTANT: IF, and ONLY IF, your Rep. sits on the Appropriations Committee should you pick up the phone and call. This is critical, you cannot calls Approps members if you do not live in their district and you cannot call your member of Congress if they do not sit on the appropriations committee.
The committee will be meeting early tomorrow morning, so please also call first thing in the morning and keep the calls flowing in throughout the day.
STEP 1: Look up your member of Congress at www.hsus.org/leglookup
STEP 2: Check to see if your Rep sits on the Appropriations Committee (see list below)
STEP 3: If, and only if your Rep sits on the committee - pick up the phone and call.
You can reach your Representative via the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
Here is the script: “Hello, my name is ___________ and I am calling from [city/state]. I am calling to urge Representative___________ to OPPOSE any amendments to the Agriculture Appropriations bill that would strip language protecting horses from slaughter.
