Sadly neglected, but still beautiful, Lace and Valentine were brought to the lot together. Both were older and extremely emaciated, and were going into organ failure. Lace and Valentine were humanely euthanized shortly after arriving at the lot by CBER. They spent their last hours with volunteers letting them know that they were loved. Valentine Lace

Beautiful indeed, with brave hearts. Thanks for giving these poor souls the dignified passing their owners would not.
~~~ A HORSE'S PRAYER ~~~ O MY MASTER, when my useful strength is gone, do not turn me out to starve or freeze, or sell me to some cruel owner, to be slowly tortured and starved to death; but do thou, My Master, take my life in the kindest way, and your God will reward you here and hereafter. You will not consider me irreverent if I ask this in the name of Him who was born in a stable. AMEN.
Its terrible that people just take them there instead of putting them down themselves. Didn't WhiskeyBrat post on the old board that a vets office she called recommended it as an alternative to having them come out to euthanize a horse? After seeing these two I'm heading over to add some money to the euth fund.. It's been awhile since I sent in anything in to it. May Angels guide them on their new trail.
Good idea, Tock. I'll join you in giving a donation to the euthanasia fund. Sometimes it is the neglected horse's best friend. Rest In Peace; Run In Pastures green.
Thank you for sparing them a ride on the truck....how sad, and again another example of a rotten former owner.
Yeah, and the truth is that they probably wouldn't even get picked to get on the truck, they'd prolly just get left on the lot to die a slow death of starvation picked on by the other horses... they'd for sure be refused at the FP... too sickly. and we know what fate that is... thank you for letting them go peacefully, as it should be.
Thank you CBER volunteers who gave them the love and respect they so deserved. It brings tears to my eyes that their owners let them get to that condition and then just dumped them. Thank goodness for the wonderful CBER people who were there to help them humanely cross the bridge...
We know horses are all too frequently neglected to the point where they are in condition this poor, yet every time I see it it's like a punch in the gut. How in HE_L can people watch this happen? ?? It takes quite a while for a horse to get this poor. How can owners rationalize this to themselves? How can they fall asleep knowing there's a horse starving outside? It just blows me away
What kind and loving little soals. You can see it in their eyes. How sad that people can be so cruel to such trusting animals. It makes me sick!
