A friend of mine passed on today. I hadn’t known her long but I will remember her always. She had been abused and neglected, forced to suffer in a way I doubt I could have survived through. And still she had love for people. What love and affection she was given she returned. She was severely undernourished when I meet her and didn’t move around much but would still press her head up to me to enjoy a good scratch. I am new at this. I did not realize how little time I would have to know her. I told her that this summer I expected to see her trotting through the pasture and I truly believed it. Today when Spring decided it was time to go I could have been there but I wasn’t. I couldn’t have helped, not really, but I have let too many reasons and excuses keep me from visiting her as often as I should have. Spring showed me that there is something in horses. Something that forgives. Something far more human than the people that would treat any living being the way she was treated in her life. I truly hope she is happy now, and safe and loved. That she knew, at the end, here she was loved.
Goodbye Spring…

I'm so sorry to hear you lost your precious friend. They do teach us so much, and show so much love. No matter how new you are to this, or how long you've been in rescuing, it does not get any easier when we have to say goodbye.
Thank you for making her last days so wonderful, and filled with love!!!! My thoughts are with you!

It sounds like Spring taught her lesson and went home. Don't kick yourself for not being there. I'm sure that she knew how much you cared about her.

Spring knows she was loved. The fact that you are so torn up about her is proof enough. Send her good wishes.....she does hear you.
So sorry.

It's never easy to say goodbye but I'm certain she knew she was loved. Hang in there and hold onto all your good memories.

The old Indian saying goes...."Why do horses want to be alone when they die? To ensure that no one sees where they run off to the pathway to Heaven...."
Corky - don't kick yourself for not being there, when horses in the wild pass on, they leave the herd, lay down, and die. Spring wanted to leave this world in the way wild horses do.

Kaycee told me about this post last night, I am so sorry to hear of this! I know exactly how you are feeling, but please do not beat yourself up over this! It sounds like Spring was happy when she passed, and this allowed her to do so peacefully! I heard once that horses do not look at dying as "DEATH" but as moving on to a better place where they can run peacefully with the herd. Please keep this in mind, as we all know she is running in the green pastures above, pain free!! Bless you for saving her, you are in my thoughts and prayers!! Chel
