My Boss and I rescued a a big grey gelding about 10 years back named Gabby. He was a previous Forest Service horse and was such a big, sweet guy. He was a big grey TB type horse. We found him for her teenage niece Riana who was having a hard time after the divorce of her parents and the best remedy was a great horse! He lived out his life on their farm in Roseburg, Riana is now in her 20's and all grown up. Gabby had a nice retirement. Gabby was put down a couple days ago, he had a bad melenoma. They buried him on their farm and are getting a engraved headstone for him. Riana is coping with the loss of her best friend. RIP sweet boy!

For those horses who give their life in service to humans, this is the way it's SUPPOSED to be. Thanks for sharing your sweet story.

That's sad, but it sounds like he was loved by his people. I like the idea of the headstone.
