I wanted to let everyone know that I had to put Ward down last sunday (7/29/07). He had been sick for several weeks and I ran all the tests I could w/o being intrusive. Long story short I had to make an extremely hard decision but I do feel it was for the best. In case some of you dont know or remember Ward I rescued him off the feedlot just a little over a year ago. I was told he was 20yrs+ Qtr horse- exroper and was blind in one eye. After a vet check he was actually 35yrs+ and blind in both eyes. He could see some shadows with his right eye but that was it. As most of the old ones are he was sick and a bag of bones when I got him. However he quickly plumped up under my care. We used to call him 'fluffy' once he became a bit over weight. He was the most sweetest horse I have ever known. There is just somthing about the old ones who have had a hard life and Ward definately had that being an exroping horse. He loved bananas and I just recently discovered Watermelon too. He was surrounded by several people who loved him very much when he passed. I will never forget him or that moment. If you would like to see pics of Ward you can find a ton at- s97.photobucket.com/albums/l227/fmx_girl/RIP Ward- I love you and will miss you dearly! ~Sandy Cber ad- www.columbiabasinequinerescue.org/DEF-HorsesProfile.asp?HoID=202

Oh, Sandy...I am so sorry. I remember how much you loved and woried and fussed over Ward...and he looked fabulous under your care. He was very lucky to have such sensitive and wonderfully understanding people around him at the end of his long journey.
Bless you.

It's always so sad when they leave, isn't it. Thank you for giving him a wonderful home. I have followed his posts from day 1. Loved that old guy from afar.

I will never forget the day Kate and I were at PEC, and Kate caught a glimpse of a horse loose out back and yelled "horse loose" or whatever. I looked over and said that horse is not loose, that's Ward. Ward came and went as he pleased under Sandy's watchful eye. Thank you Sandy for all the love you gave him. So many of us will never forget Ward. He will live on in our hearts.

OH Sandy I am so sorry! Ward was another wonderful old guy who melted my heart at the lot. I tried to watch over him like a mother hen till he left there and even got the FLO to let him stay out in a small grassy area by himself away from the really sick horses and so he could feel safe ( the other horses intimidated him and he would just stand by the fence and not eat) I was so worried about him and then he was able to leave and I was so thankful you took such good care of him. Bless you for being a good "mom" and letting him feel safe and well fed for the time he had. My thoughts are with you.
