Poppy was put down yesterday. This winter so far had been very hard on her, she was having a hard time keeping weight on even though I was shoveling it to her and her arthritis had her crippled up bad. I had been giving her bute daily, and it wasn't even cutting it...Her face turned gray over the last few months as well, and she was very cranky and started kicking. I think this was all due to pain. Poppy will be greatly missed, but lived a long life of 29 years. For those of you who had not read the thread, I had gotten a hold of the previous owners before the feed lot. She had MANY babies, raced in her younger days and even did some chariot racing. It will be odd not having the cranky old gal around, but now she is free running in the pastures above...YOUNG and Frisky again! She loved to run, she would try and run and then limp around after wards I loved that old gal, and hopefully one day will see her again.

Oh Chel...I know how much you loved Poppy...I'm sorry that her pain was too much for the meds to help...You always do the right thing for your animals, no matter the cost to yourself.
Cyberhugs, Leanne

I loved that old gal, and hopefully one day will see her again. Chelma, you definitely will see her again, and the first thing she'll say is "Thank you. Thank you for saving me, for caring for me, and thank you for loving me enough to let me go when the I needed release." I'm so sorry for your loss; hugs from Sonoma County.

I keep doubting myself, I'm feeling guilty...but she was so cranky, I know it was from the pain....our sweet girl was never an old rip like she's been acting these last few months....This is really hard, it doesn't seem the same around here.....Her HUGE blanket hanging in the barn (Ok, it's huge when everybody else is a 72 and under).......ugh! This sucks!
