Poor guy! He probably was loyal to someone all of his life, and then they throw him out because he's getting old. From the pictures, he looks no older than the other three.

Once again, I can offer a back-up home for 2 or 3 horses if their funds get raised - I would pay for transport to SD after QT if they don't get adopted by then.

I love the old ones......I don't know what it is, the knowledge in their eyes, the heart and soul, or what. I just don't get how someone can throw them away. I wish I could have a pasture full of them....

I feel sick.
We let you down, Levi...and your previous owner was horrible to let you become incapacitated...it led to your death.
I hope the humans choke on their dinner.

RIP sweet one. Just hold on tight past the scary or painful part, and you'll arrive in a place worthy of you, and more wonderful than you could've imagined on earth.

Levi....it rips us to shreds, it tears out our hearts and crushes us with unbearable pain every time we fail a horse, especially a horse like you. The anger and pain sear. The fear and pain we know awaits you blows our minds. To say we are sorry is never enough...........but my Lord, we are sorry. There are not enough of us in this world willing to hold out a hand to save a life. Your life was important to you. You must have been a great horse to a great many people. Did they have any idea what you would face in your golden years? Did they ever think about it? When you should have earned the right to rest, you were sold to butchers just make sure the last dollar could be taken out of you. Or were you sold to the dealer who promised the family going through hard times that there was a super home waiting for a fine old gentleman such as yourself, and that he would take care of the details? Or were you stolen from a backyard 500 miles away and dropped for cash at the feedlot? We will never know now. And you will never know what you did wrong to end up in such a place. The anger at those who could have helped but did not is untameable. Money is the root of all evil. What was your life really worth? Couple hundred bucks? It was YOUR LIFE. I wonder what mine is worth. Probably less than a horse. A horse would not do this to a person. Be with God quickly............(((hug))) Painter for me..........

Dear Levi, if I could this moment, I would whisk you away from that awful place you are in and bring you to my farm, and tell you how beautiful and important you are. I am so sorry you have been let down like this.
I always think about these old horses and read their assessments "neck reins, backs, well trained" and think about how, years ago, someone worked very hard to train that horse, and how much work it all takes, the hundreds of hours we spend in the saddle to finish a horse. To have it end like this for a horse like Levi is so incredibly sad.
Heading out to the barn....8:27 pm.....I need to have a good cry and sit with all my Levis out there.
Katie
