UPDATE: 3/13/08 I talked to the Vet again today. He said that Calvin has some arthritic type developmental changes in the stifle and hock. Because of Calvins age he could continue to adapt and improve. The problem is that being in a stall the majority of the time causes him to strain himself because he plays so hard when he does get turn out time. My vet is very willing to talk with anyone interested in Calvin. There is no guarantee.
So I hope to find somewhere to keep him while I look for a new home for him. I don't want to but I have to rehome him.
His athleticism is amazing and works in his favor. This guy can do airs above the ground from a stand still!! He has a very strong ability and desire to adapt. Most people when they see him don't see anything
With a heavy heart and much regret I am looking to rehome this handsome, life loving, funny guy. Adopted October 2005 from CBER at approx 6 months of age he is now green broke and can only handle light riding - medium due to hock/stifle injury. He is a clown, loves to play with things, is level headed and has wonderful smooth gaits. He may be able to do a bit more if on supplements. Also possible for someone to explore surgery to increase his ride time. Would like $500 for him but am very negotiable as I want him to go to the right home. If someone wants a pasture pet he would be hilarious and gorgeous to watch!! In that case he would be a gift contract.
This horse: 16.0 HH
Oct. 2008 will be approx 3 1/2 yrs old
Hauls
Clips
Bathes
Ties
Stands for Farrier--NO SHOES has excellent feet!!!!
Started with NH
The issues with his stifle and hock are not easily explained. He has been diagnosed with the best expert in town via x-rays. Has some joint changes and bone cyst. Did not do repeat x-rays for bone cyst as vet said as long as he is not getting worse and you won't be doing surgery it would be more of an added expense. Calvin is doing better then expected. He is being ridden about 20-30 minutes walk-trot with occasion canter 3-4 times a week. Hope to get him on the trails soon and increase his canter time. He gets stiff when in his stall or with decreased ability to walk around. No on going medication is needed. Supplements may help. Really need to talk with a person and review what they want and what Calvin could do......
Here is his thread under OUR HORSES on the CBER bb for more info rescuesonly.proboards59.com/index.cgi?board=appysandpaints&action=display&thread=1192429974 .
I also have more pics I can email. If interested or have questions please send me message or email me at Litchfieldsis@hotmail.com
