DON JUAN - 13 y/o - 15h - Grey Arabian Gelding
Post by foxie on Dec 15, 2005, 11:29am
DON JUAN - Was bought by lisamc before he could be listed on CBER.
lisamc writes ~
"In an effort to maybe get another horse adopted I'd be willing to trade this guy for one of the feedlot horses. Since a lot of people like greys and I don't mind the sorrels and bays I think I can let him go.
Sam figured he was about 13 years old. He's 15hh. Sam rode him at the feedlot with just a halter and leadrope. He's had his feet trimmed and he's been wormed since I've had him. He was just fine for that. I haven't done really anything with him yet. He's very sweet, easy to catch and loves to be scratched."

I am new here and this is my first post. This guy is amazing and I am interested in more information but I am not sure where to start. Also, being on the east coast, I'm not sure if it is feasible. I am very much into Arabs and currently have a little mare who is coming 5. I have only had her for a year. She is my second Arab. My first is retired at the family farm in MD. Both were abuse/neglect cases and have turned into wonderful, special friends.
I have been looking for a gelding for her company and as another mount to begin including my family and getting them interested in horses. My young niece works with my mare at times and I would like to start her in lessons with her at a local barn.
Probably too much info for now. Any information I could get would be great. If it isn't feasible, I understand also.
Thanks.

Pam, last i knew it was the same price they paid for him from CBER to a CBER approved home only. I think it was around 600. They are great about responding to emails if your interested. I was hoping he was broke to ride but with the weather a few months back, they hadn't been able to ride him. They may have since.

yes, I agree and I also think he is probably quite broke by the way he longes so easily with simple commands. But when I asked, I was looking for a known, very broke horse and they could not say that he was because they had not been on him. This was long ago when I was first looking for a kid/family horse and needed the details or riding.
Maybe if anyone does get an update, the can update here as well.

D.J. is one amazing horse. I've had him since Nov. 15, 2005. He's been inconsistently worked with since I've gotten him...I've probably only groundworked him about six or seven times and he's only been ridden three times.
He is SUPER light in the bridle. When I rode him I sat deep on my pockets and said WHOA! and barely picked up on the rein and he stopped immediately. He backs up on a loose rein. He neck reins nice. He sidepasses to the right really well, not so good to the left. I can't wait to see how much better he gets the more consistently that he is ridden.
I think I've got my hubby convinced that we really need to keep him.
Anyways, here's some pics of my 10 year old daughter riding him.
I had to include this one...notice she's not even holding the reins and he doesn't even think about moving while you're trying to get on him.

Hey Janet,
Long time no talk (or see). Well, Dad is convinced as long as she keeps on riding him and using him....so it's all in Jamee's hands now.
Our Cover-All is 65' X 96' and it's a perfect size for us. I'm usually groundworking one in the middle while Jamee is riding D.J. along the rail. We really love it.
On another note....I seen on one of these threads (not Soxey's though) that you actually rode Soxey on a trail ride. That's so awesome that you finally got to ride her. YIPPEEEEEE!

Here is Don Juan who we got from Lisa in Orofino, ID the beginning of December. Marcia and I gave him to Katie for Xmas.
