JESTER - 14 y/o - 14.1h - Grey Arabian Gelding
Post by foxie on Apr 27, 2006, 11:03pm
JESTER - 14 yrs old, approx. 14.1hh, Flea-bitten grey Arabian gelding, a real cute guy. Said to ride, although previous owner said he dumped her kid off ( we do not know circumstances) He handled nicely, picked up his feet front and back, knew how to lunge and appears sound at the walk and trot during lunging on rocky feedlot ground, even though his feet need to be done badly. He seems smart and willing to us, was easy to catch out on the lot with grain. For Adoption Only.

I just had someone call and say she is willing to bail Jester if necessary to keep him off the truck. This is NOT an offer to adopt, so please understand that he is available for adoption. This generous person will most likely not have to pay his bail. All we need to know is that there is someone that will back him if necessary to keep him off the truck.
So, again, he is currently not paid for and he doesn't have any adoption offers. He is open for adoption for anyone looking for a very nice little Arab gelding!!!

Jester looks very fine. His size and looks are perfect for a trained young rider. Do not think that a young rider coming off him is a negative.

Thank you all for asking about Jester. Jester is doing fine. As with you, Alekzandra, he also reminded my sister and I of a horse we knew and occasionally got to ride when we were young - A well-known multi national champion in several disciplines who then became the ultimate school-master. I have Jester with a friend who breeds and trains arabians using a lot of round pen and horsemanship-based methods. The funny thing was, when he first arrived and she was bonding with him in the round pen, she said he reminded her of this same horse! My sister and I didn't know she even had known this horse, but it turns out she had actually owned him when she was in high school, after my sister and I had graduated. Anyway, I think it's a good sign that we all see the same thing in Jester.
He is still in quarantine at her broodmare farm. He whinnies at the girls and gets mad when they go around the big barn out of his sight. He is quite well trained in the round pen and in showmanship. We have found he has some issues with riding, although I have only been on him a couple times, very briefly. We'll be working with more in the next couple weeks to try to find out what he knows and work through the issue. It seems like he is afraid of messing up, and therefore just doesn't want to deal with being ridden, but he knows the saddle and bridle. He is not mean at all; actually very gentlemanly, but very anxious. Our theory is that it has to do with whatever happened that caused his owners to send him to auction or the feedlot. So, we're taking it slow and may not even try to do much until he is out of quarantine and moved over to the training barn. Just spending time with him, brushing and doing ground stuff to bond with him.
I will post again as I learn more about him.

Jenelle, so glad to hear he is with people who are knowledgeable enough to understand his anxiety. I'm sure he will come around - he probably just had a terrible experience and got his brain fried. That's fixable.
