Calico Callie- 15-20 y/o- 14.3hh - B/W Paint Mare
Post by cybercat on Oct 27, 2006, 9:38pm
Calico Callie - 15 - 20 year old, 14.3h, black and white paint mare. Gentle in the halter, picks up feet nicely and was easy to catch. We ran out of time to ride so we will hop on her if we can. She was sound at time of assessment and a pleasure to handle.
$600.00
Contact Heidi for more information at: CreeksideAQHA@aol.com
Adopter: clayandjill (mom of Streak!)
QT: clayandjill
Transport: clayandjill
Bail Amount: $600.00
Bail Pledged: $10.00 goodhaven
$300.00 by clayandjill
$60.00 swissgirl!
$25.00 jewel
$25.00 eileenm
That leaves $180 in bail needed and then about $150 for transportation...think that's about right?

I can't believe this darling is not getting more interest! Wish they'd test ride her, that might help move her if she turns out to be a good ride.
I am not usually a paint fan, mostly cuz they seem to usually get more interest than the plain ones, their chances are better. I root for underdogs.
I have an appy named Calico, and we call her Callie for short, so this gal's name also has me by the heart.
Gosh, she is so darned cute, she could convert me into being a paint fan! I love her expression.
Am offering $10 to start her fund.

I can contribute $25 on behalf of Jewel, who looks very much like Callie (picture in adopted paints). I'm sorry that I can't donate more.
Are you doing this through the CBER store or what? Somebody kindly advise me. Either here, or pm me (ebo) on the CBER board. Thanks.
I'm in, plus started a $5 drive on the main board for her. It just occurred to me that we can't help with fuel costs via CBER. Maybe the Angel fund can pick up some of that.

Re: Calico Callie-HIGH RISK-Has Home Offer, Needs

EileenM, I think the sooner the better. When you get your receipt, email a copy to Heidi and tell her who gets it. I don't know who, if anyone, is at the lot today, but it proably would not be amiss to ask Heidi to call Chuck to tell him we're in range of raising her entire bail.
Speaking of which, the $240 figure was, according to Ms. Cybercat, in error, so our amount to raise is really $180 instead of the $155. (Checking the math, I still get $155, however, before EileenM's donation.)
So: $600 - $300(jill) - $50(swissgrl) - $10(goodhaven - $60(swissgrl) - $25(jewel/ebo) - $25(EileenM) = $130

$50 less fees is coming from PayPal. I already advised Heidi that there's a glitch getting it to go through tonight; it's insisting on using my Credit card instead of the $50 in cash sitting in the account. Their offices are closed, so I'll try them tomorrow. I'd rather not use the card...but either way count $50 from me.

Bless you, MF3, for your generosity! Callie also picked up another $25 off the main board from new member, Sunflower. (Which is a great name, btw.)
This is great because Calllie has only $55 to go before she reaches her goal of $600. (Or, if we've counted Swissgrl's donation twice when she was talking about the same donation, we need $100.--doable either way.)
Eileenm is making fun of me. When I adopted Jewel, people thought she was a paint, and as most of you probably know, the paint people have names for the different color patterns that occur in the horses--Overo, Tobiano and Sabino. I didn't know that, and was confused into which category Jewel fit; so invented one: Raviolio.

Hi Jewel....
I have looked and read books on the differences in the "paint" type colors, and I have to tell you, I am confused too..... I think it just depends on who you talk to! It's like tomatoe, or tamato??
Anyway, so glad Callie is safe from the truck, she will be loved forever here.

Re: Calico Callie-HIGH RISK-Has Home Offer, Needs

I have no idea who came up with the pattern names. I still get confused!
These are the APHA definitions:
Tobiano (pronounced: tow be yah' no)
The dark color usually covers one or both flanks.
Generally, all four legs are white, at least below the hocks and knees.
Generally, the spots are regular and distinct as ovals or round patterns that extend down over the neck and chest, giving the appearance of a shield.
Head markings are like those of a solid-colored horse--solid, or with a blaze, strip, star or snip.
A tobiano may be either predominantly dark or white.
The tail is often two colors.
Overo (pronounced: oh vair' oh)
The white usually will not cross the back of the horse between its withers and its tail.
Generally, at least one and often all four legs are dark.
Generally, the white is irregular, and is rather scattered or splashy.
Head markings are distinctive, often bald-faced, apron-faced or bonnet-faced.
An overo may be either predominantly dark or white.
The tail is usually one color.
Tovero (pronounced: tow vair' oh)
Dark pigmentation around the ears, which may expand to cover the forehead and/or eyes.
One or both eyes blue.
Dark pigmentation around the mouth, which may extend up the sides of the face and form spots.
Chest spot(s) in varying sizes. These may also extend up the neck.
Flank spot(s) ranging in size. These are often accompanied by smaller spots that extend forward across the barrel, and up over the loin.
Spots, varying in size, at the base of the tail.

One more thing: We're rearranging our asylum today, so my computer will be down most of the afternoon. Will someone please contacct JillandClay, tell her to contact Heidi if she hasn't already, just to make sure that Heidi knows of her interest. That way, Heidi can keep Calllie off the scales. Thanks.
I'll email both of them before I sign off, but Just In Case.......

Thank you to everybody who has been so generous.....she will be loved her by a 6 year old little girl who has wanted a paint horse her entire life......
I promise LOT of updates and pics.
I have PM'd Jenm and Shelly, and have emailed Callie's PS......I guess all we have to do is sit back and wait, and say a few prayers that we are not to late. That would really be a shame.
Thanks again everyone, you guys are awesome.

I think we were in time. When I last heard from Heidi, she said she'd hold her off the truck.
tvlines also sent $55, so we either have just enough, or about $50 extra.
My compliments to you all on your generosity.
Now: Somebody explain to me about tobiano, overo, tovero, sabino etc. And who was responsible for all these strangeo nameos?

Hi Jewel....
I have looked and read books on the differences in the "paint" type colors, and I have to tell you, I am confused too..... I think it just depends on who you talk to! It's like tomatoe, or tamato??
Anyway, so glad Callie is safe from the truck, she will be loved forever here.

Emjay....I wish that were the case. The ones I have contacted are extremely worried (with good cause) about strangles and the possibility of other horses being hauled being exposed.....not to mention their equipment being exposed.
I am just going to tough it out and come get her myself.....I want her home for the holidays!
