I was really hoping to have some more news on Plum's level of training by today, but I was sick all last week and didn't get to work with her enough that I felt like getting on her today. I did bridle her, but didn't get an indication one way or another if she had a clue or not. She is getting over her scaredness and now is more curious than scared when I am working around her. She is such a sweetie. She tries so hard to please, which makes me wonder if she really has that much training or if she is just trying so very hard to do what I want her to. I don't think I have ever been around a horse that wants to get things right as badly as Plum does.
Since we have switched boards now, let me update you on Plum. She is closer to 14.1 - 14.2 hands than 15 and is definately part appy. She has mottling around her eyes, nose, and nipples as well as striped hooves and a few scattered spots. There are more and more spots showing up as I get more dirt off of her. She's really good to be brushed, but her sensitive skin and the large amount of feedlot mud that she came caked in is making the beautification process slow. I was going to take new pics today, but forgot the darn camera. Hopefully tomorrow.
If anyone is reading this and looking for a project horse, I really think that Plum is going to make someone a great best friend. She's very stout, clean legged and has great feet as well as an adorable face and big brown eyes.

A very merry christmas to everyone from Plum, and a special thank you from both of us to those who stepped up and paid her bail.
Plum gave me two early christmas presents today. She ate her first carrot after many failed attempts to date and she felt good enough to buck and play in her paddock this morning. She even got down and rolled in the mud.

This sounds like a horse with TREMENDOUS potential! Someone with Arab or TB experience might do really well with her, since it sounds like she is a sensitive soul. What a diamond in the rough she is. She is going to be one gorgous gal in spring, when she sheds this winter coat.

Once again, I am promising pics if I can ever coordinate a clean Plum with the daylight hours. Just wanted everyone to know she is doing great and looking better every day despite her love for the mud.
She is such a nice horse to be around! All of the tugging and unmatting I've done on her coat and tail and not once has she even thought of pinning her ears or lifting her hind legs even though I know it hurts because she moves away from me ever so slightly.
I was feeling sorry for her being restricted to a stall and paddock the other night, so I thought I would brave the long VERY DARK walk to the arena so that she could play. Despite the elk making horrendous noise in the background, two changes of surfaces, the dog running around, and major puddles, she never balked, spooked or even thought of refusing, just marched out to the arena like she'd done it a million times.
This is where it gets cute. As long as I'm in the arena with her, she won't run or play. So I was standing there and I said "Plum why don't you go play" She went and ran and bucked a lap around the arena and came back and stood by me. I told her to do it again and she did. Then she was standing there and I said "Plum why don't you roll." No kidding, she dug a hole right in front of me and rolled like crazy. A fluke, probably, but she was so cute about it. She loves to come up to you in the arena and kiss you on the cheek as if to ask if what she's doing is okay.
I really think that she would make a great little gaming horse for some youth willing to put the effort into her. I don't think she's got a mean or stubborn bone in her body. She is soooooo Happy Go Lucky and curious about everything. She's been a real joy to have around. I just hope we can find her that perfect forever home and her own person that she deserves.

Just a quick update - I went to get Plum out of the arena tonight and she had drug the mounting block into the middle. Well, I set it upright to move it and then decided I would stand on it just to see what she would do. She was unfazed so I swung my leg over and sat on her and she just stood there like now what do you want me to do? Since she was in a halter I didn't push it, but it seemed pretty promosing. If all goes well I'm going to dust off my breaking saddle and try her out on Saturday. The way she acted today, I don't think I'm the first person to get on her. She's such a good girl!

Well I finally rode Miss Plum tonight. She has definately been ridden before (or she's the best unridden horse I have ever been on) BUT she needs a major refresher in the basics.
She was absolutely perfect to saddle and bridle. Didn't flinch when I cinched her up and could care less that she had a saddle on her back. I got on her and it was no big deal at all. We walked and jogged in both directions.
She goes and whoas, but her steering needs realigned. I think that part of it was that she steered really well when we were heading towards the arena door and not so well away from it. The little goof.
Anyways, being that I have not had her preg checked yet (pending), I didn't want to work her very hard at all. From hear we are going to take it slow, working on the basics and I bet she "remembers" as we go along.
She never bucked or had one hair out of line, she just acted like she didn't know. All in all it was a VERY POSITIVE experience.
She's such a sweetheart, she whinnies at you every time you walk in the barn now. It's nice to be appreciated since the rest of my spoiled monsters just expect treats and loves.

Okay, here is my first attempt at posting pictures. Will probably being begging Foxie for help soon. . I didn't even see the tongue pic until I downloaded them. That's what Plum thought of having her picture taken. She probably won't be clean until it's warm enough to bathe her, but she's getting there. I think she might have two horseshoe shaped brands on her left shoulder.
Hmm, only one pic showed up. I'll keep trying. Okay, here it goes again.

Did you find out if she is pregnant yet? hvnsnt338 please check into transport, this mare needs a forever home. She is my favorite. A friend of mine owns her twin and he is a great horse. Florida is not that far away, what is a week of travel for a place she can call home. Call some of the people listed on the site as transporters and get some bids or take the kids on a trip to the west coast and drag along the horse trailer and bring her home.

I was going to wait a couple of days to update Plum as I should have some VERY BIG news, however, she was so amazing tonight that I had to brag on her.
Her training has been coming along slow but sure, but tonight was an off night so I just turned her out to play in the arena while I did her stall. During that time the barn owner put some big cardboard boxes in her burn barrel (which is between the arena and the barn) and lit them on fire. Of course my two TB broodmares who are in the barn went wacko snorting and spinning circles immediately (that's what most TB's do in the event of any size monster). I knew the fire would burn for awhile (the flames were higher than the barn roof) so I went to get Plum out of the arena anyways. She walked right by that burn barrel and didn't move a hair, no snorting, shying, nothing. She just walked right by like no big deal. Being that I have always had mainly TB's I had no idea what a bombproof horse was. I will not call Plum bombproof because as soon as I do she will throw a wreck over something minor. However, I was really impressed.
I will hopefully post another update later this week.

My apologies for being a bad foster mom and not updating lately, but my vengeful back kept me from doing a whole lot with any of my kids last week. For those of you who are young enough that you still bounce when you come off a horse, IT WILL CATCH UP WITH YOU.
To start with Plum will be seeing the vet either Wed morning to get preg checked. If anyone is seriously considering adopting her (from out of state) please PM me and I will have Coggins and health certs done at the same time.
She is coming along nicely in her training, although I have not been on her lately. Today we actually did a controlled canter on the lunge line. The more I work with her, the more I think she knows, but has either forgotten or would like me to think she doesn't know. She's a very good girl either way, no silly business when I am working with her.
She has such a personality. She has decided that she is very jealous of my two broodmares that are in the barn with her and she hollers at me when she sees me paying attention to them. Yesterday I was halfway ignoring her and she brought her jollyball into the stall and started banging it on the wall to try to get my attention. Of course it worked, and now she thinks she's pretty clever.
She is shedding like mad and even though I was hoping to have found her a forever home before she got her summer coat, I am excited to see exactly where all of those elusive spots are located.

REINING IS NOT NEC. BUT SHE WOULD BE USED IN THE MOUNTAINS AND TO WORK CATTLE SO SHE WOULD NEED TO BE QUIET AND WILLING TO LEARN... MY FRIEND WORKS FULL TIME AND DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO BREAK HER...LET ME KNOW IF PLUM MAY BE A GOOD CANIDATE AND WE MAY HAVE TO TAKE A ROAD TRIP THIS SPRING

Don't apologize for those pictures! They were great. I think she's a pretty nice little horse. She looks much more relaxed now. Wish she were whinnying at me.

This little mare would be a great new addition. I would love to have her if I didnt already own my limit. She seems very willing to do anything you ask of her. What a fun horse. Hope she finds that perfect home.

The thing I noticed is how light she is compared to her feedlot pics! She must have rolled constantly to keep the overall brown....

It looks like I may have found my son's project horse....But Milton, Florida is so very far away. I could never afford the transport....something like 2500 miles away....
Plum is such a beautiful prospect!!!!!

JUST CURIOUS, BUT HAS ANYONE INQUIRED ABOUT ADOPTION ON THIS MARE? I HAVE A GIRL FRIEND WHO I AM TRYING TO TALK INTO LOOKING AT THIS MARE...THE ONLY THING IS PLUM NEEDS TO BE BROKE.
