Some of you might remember Calvin. He was Babar when I adopted him from CBER off the feedlot in October of 2005. Here is his baby pic Now he is almost 16 hand tall! Had to wait until now to continue saddle training due to injury. He seems to have recovered. Hopefully we can beat the weather and be on him before winter.

Thanks you guys. Today was his first day of driving. He did so well. He is a very level headed horse. Which is good considering how big he is.

Calvin does remind me of Shy, (referring to your post in Shy's thread that links to this thread, Re: feedlot babies : )
Calvin was just a little baby, too. I'm so glad you saved him. And he's GORGEOUS! He looks wonderful. You've done a great job!

WHOO HOO I am so excited. Calvin had his first ride today. I had a friend get on while I was on the ground as he is used to me. Tomorrow is my turn and I can't wait. I hope I can get pictures.
Just so exciting after all we have been through since I adopted him. I wondered if I would ever get him undersaddle. It helped moving him yet again to another facility.
Long story short after I adopted him my barn owner decided to sell her place. I had not yet finished school etc. so funding became very difficult. I was working and going to school as well. The first place I moved my horses to was ok until winter. I lost my beloved mare there Dec. 2. I vowed we would not spend another winter there. Two month ago I moved to another place that was better for the horses but not for riding. Finally due employment and wage increase I was able to move to a place that has 2 outdoor round pens and an outdoor arena along with a huge indoor arena. You can also trail ride out for miles ;D.
Calvins barn buddy is Duke the picture I have for my avatar.

Things went really well today. Calvin is so laid back, no offer to buck or hump his back or anything. He did walk, trot and canter both directions !! I did get pics but will have to upload them next week. I work the next three days. I work 12 hour shifts so I have to get things ready for those days . I got several compliments on him from people at the barn who have not seen him yet. Of course I always tell them he was resuced from slaughter. Amazing the looks they get on their faces when they hear that. Can't wait to ride again. Will update as I go!! ;D

Hoping his injury has healed well. Will be watching closely to determine how much riding he can take etc. Want to do whats best for him. If he keeps this up he would be a great little kid horse. I hope to be able to trail ride him. I bought him a blanket as I will be riding this winter. He looks pretty cool in his new dud's !! That is to cool about Artic. I remember gaining her trust to touch her but no way was a halter going on. Would love to see a pic of her. It was because of her that Calvin survived his time at the feed lot. She took to him and protected him like her own. It was really sweet. He was the only one she would let eat with her at the barn too.

I thorougly enjoy riding this guy. He has a great trot and is very responsive and wants to please. I hope to get a couple new pics tomorrow and get them loaded. So far he has not shown any soreness although I haven't been pushing to hard.

He is doing so well. He is ok with the cows and the guys roping. We are all riding in the indoor arena with the yucky weather and he adjusted really well. He is so laid back but responsive. I LOVE his canter!! I hope to get more pictures soon.

So sorry that he didn't work out for you. Is it possible for him to do more with a small rider/child or is he unsound with light weight riders? I happen to be a heavy weight, sometimes it helps to have a lighter rider with these horses that have had injuries.
