2 - 3 year old, 16h, red roan, Paint draft cross mare. Mary Jane does not know much but responds very well to kindness. She is halter broke. She has a docile eye and tried hard to accommodate what was being asked of her. She looks like she will be a big horse when she is fully matured. She has a very unique coloring with full feathering on her legs. She did not understand about lifting her feet. She will be a very nice mare with training and kind handling. Please contact Deb Logstrom avalonmistfarm@msn.com for more information. www.columbiabasinequinerescue.org/DEF-HorsesProfile.asp?HoID=722ADOPTION FEE $600.00

It looks almost like her body has been shaved and her head left alone...She is a keeper, for sure!
Feathers are a good thing...!

I love this gal! I like her name too, but she looks so sad. Kind of like the Alanis Morissette song 'Mary Jane'....
"Please be honest Mary Jane Are you happy? Please don't censor your tears"
or
"You lost your place in line again, what a pity You never seem to want to dance anymore"
or
"All that matters Mary Jane is your freedom Keep warm my dear, keep dry"

In the other photos of her you can see how skinny she really is. This girl is 16 hands and going for only $600, what does that tell you?

have you seen her feet they look terrible. It looks like the one front is totally separated. Hopefully someone with a good farrier can help this. I've never seen one so bad. YUCK

Yes I saw that and went off on a rampage that I deleted because today is one of my "people suck" days after seeing her! So I just will leave it at "I love her" and hope someone takes good care of her and will give her some treats for me

We have a long time farrier on the board somewhere, post to the general forum about this and ask them to look at her photos.

I'm having my vet look at the pictures right now so I may be able to offer this girl a home if she is treatable within my $ status. If anyone could help with bail it would be appretiated. I'm waiting on a call from my vet now.

I just looked at the hoof photos and these are my impressions...by the way, I was a farrier for 18+ years and switched to natural barefoot trims (Pete Ramey style) a couple years ago.
It seems likely that she had an injury to the coronary band on the front hoof which has the separation. Since she is sound on it now, odds are good that she can remain sound with good hoof care. However, the real test will be when she is up to a normal body weight. Although the appearance of the separation will probably alter when her feet are cared for, the separation will not go away if it originates in her coronary band. The hoof wall that is made in that area will always be disrupted.
The photos of her very upright and very short hinds are worrisome. Looks as though she is club footed in both of them. Perhaps they can be re-aligned with regular care. I would be concerned that she has contracted tendons.
Please know that you can only tell so much from a photo so I just may be all wrong.

Thanks Geri I appreciate the information you provided I was worried about the hinds as well. It's hard to see the corinary band with all that feather. My Vet thought maybe white line disease may have caused the split. She is still looking at the other photos. Anyway it looks like she may have an adopter comming to see her tomorrow (not me). So maybe she will have a savior.

Is there a farrier near there that someone knows who could give a hands on assessment as well?

not an expert here, but she looks to me like she had some fast growth, that caused her some stifle hitches... and caused her to land toe first for a while on those hinds, so they got worn down... I personally think they will be fine with good trims... hinds are also more upright naturally, and I think it is just a visual illusion from the pics too... and for the fronts, I thought they were just way too long and broke off into the 'live' portion, and again, I think in 6 months of good hoof trims she will be all good.... but, that is from pics... not sure if I'm right or not. she sure IS cute... I gotta stop lookin!!!

Hey! I was just reviewing the drafts.
If I would have been in the position to take her earlier this year, I would have!
I'm just bumping her up. If anyone has any information on her, it would be good to have an update. Pleeeeeaase....
