Shady (CBER Powder) is looking for a new home. I rescued her from the feedlot last May, but a military move clear across the country makes it impossible for me to keep her. She's approximately 9 years old and probably in the 14.3 hand area. I think she's a draft/arab mix, but everyone has their own opinion about that! She's very stocky with a lot of bone and could probably carry anyone. Shady is up to date on all her vaccinations, dewormed, trimmed every 8 weeks, and very healthy. She is greenbroke, but improves every time I ride her. Her steering is still a little rusty but she's very safe, and would be great for someone looking to train a horse without having to be the first one up. She loads/leads/ties GREAT/clips, but is scared of running water (puddles are fine, hoses are deadly). She has no known issues other than being boss mare (doesn't beat up on herdmates, but definitely is in charge). She's an easy keeper. I'm asking $750, which was her bail from the lot, to an approved CBER adopter, and she'll come with her turnout sheet and halter of course. Shady is currently stalled at night and is fine with that, but I would have a preference for a home with a sheltered pasture, as she hates being locked up. Please call or email for more info or to meet Shady. Erika at 360-642-8954 or cobained @ charter.net Located in Long Beach, WA.

We had this mare for QT and some training. She is a really nice mare! Well worth what they are asking.

Is anyone interested in giving this sweet girl a home? I'd really feel better placing her with someone approved, but I will start advertising around soon as our time here is running low and neither of us can afford to be in a bind when the orders come...

Perhaps you could put a notice for her under General like Mickey did for Claudia so that people will notice her here. Every little bit helps. :0)

I'll put a notice in general for you....the military won't pay to move her for you? How sad!!!! I now they'll move dogs and cats.....she's just a big Norwegian Elkhound I think....XXL crate....lol
Sorry you can't keep her but thank you so much for giving her a wonderful, loving home and safety from the truck. She's gorgeous!!!!

Thanks for your help.
No the military won't move any pets either. I'm sure they'd let us use some of the moving allowance we get to do it, but it would take every last penny. They seem to have very little concern about family life if you ask me...my husband very nearly missed our wedding because of them!

Where are you moving to? Maybe there's a way to get her there if you want to keep her. Might be someone going that way.......

Well that's half the problem...My husband is going back to training for about 6 months, which is in North Carolina (from one ocean to the other), but after that we have no idea where we'll be moving. I had originally planned on buying a trailer and hauling my girls with us, but it seems trailers are a lot more expensive than I thought. And even if I could find the perfect trailer at an awesome price, would I have the ability to safely get my horses 3000 miles? We passed through some ugly weather on our way here (from Georgia). And then there's the fact that I don't have any job lined up and could be unemployed for a time...There are a lot of things stacked against us all leaving here together!
I do have someone local coming to see Shady tonight, and maybe she'll be the one (o: Shady has been very well behaved lately and is starting to look more like a horse and less like a fuzzy teddy bear!!

Shady has found a new home with a couple about 45 minutes from here, right down the road from the vet (o: They'll use her for pleasure and trail riding and intend on keeping her forever. The husband is a natural balance farrier and they grow their own hay. They seem like a wonderful new home for her, and I will be able to keep in touch and visit her.
