Thank you Kathy. This poor horse.
June got her feet trimmed today. They were DREADFUL and look better, but that wasn't going to get fixed in one appointment.
Vet is coming out tomorrow to do an ultrasound. Word on the street is she's bred. What next...?

Can you fill us in on what has happened to June? The last I heard of her she had been taken from Shellys barn many months back by a gal who had not paid her board. I thought Jellybelly was going to get her back. What happened?

This is a long involved story, but the main issues are that I leased June to a gal that had everyone convinced she was a great horse person. I never actually met her as June was living at Shelly Curtis's (JellyBelly) barn. After talking on the phone and emailing, I decided it would be best for June to stay in the same barn, since she'd been moved around so much. I leased her to this gal, also named Shelley/Michelle.
For reasons we still don't know for sure, Michelle moved June and another horse, Maggie, away from NWEEC (now Mt. Hood Equestrian Center) to an undisclosed location. June and Maggie were listed as stolen, but I was able to contact Michelle and was assured that June was safe. I had hoped that it was merely a misunderstanding between (Good) Shelly Curtis and Michelle.
As it turned out, while we were at the SAFE show this past weekend, a gal was there who Cathy (Cat67) introduced us to who had information on June.
To back up a bit, I had emailed Michelle a few days previous to let her know we would be in town and that I'd like to visit June to check on her. Michelle had assured me that I could visit, etc, whenever I liked. I hadn't heard back from her, but I accounted for this as her being out of town, or not enough notice from me to have checked her email.
This gal at the show told me June had been SOLD to a guy who abused his horses. The sad part (well, it's all quite sad) is that Michelle had traded this guy June for a gelding that he had. Michelle then sold the gelding to this gal I met at the show. So, the gal is stuck. She loves her gelding, but Michelle sold him to her in a shady deal. I really hope she gets to keep the gelding and that Michelle has to pay restitution of some sort.
So, that is it in a nutshell. Of course there was the requisite drama with the guy showing up with a kid to translate for him. He speaks spanish. He called the police, for which I was grateful. I ended up, with the officer's approval, loading June and going home that same day. I am thankful that I was able to take her that day.
That is the reason I am looking for all information on June. I have the original Bill of Sale for her, but am having trouble tracking down her Coggins/health cert/brand ID and want to have my arsenal ready if this comes back to haunt me in a civil suit of some kind. I know I am right in having her, but want to be able to prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt.
I was never able to get Michelle to sign the lease agreement, even after emailing it to her a few times and snail mailing it. She says she "never recieved it". I have learned my lesson on this one.
I'll try to get pics up soon, but am dealing with other issues at the moment. I did want to come on to explain what is going on though, so people don't wonder and assume something worse than reality.

Well I am just happy to see she is back with you Lisa. I met June and the "other" Shelly at NWEC when Dancer was up there in December. The gal also had another Belgin draft mare. I hope that horse was not traded away to a bad place too. I am glad Miss Junie is back and safe now.

Thanks for the kind words and offers of help. At this point...we need prayers for a safe pregnancy for Miss Junie. Vet did an ultrasound today. She is pregnant. Will post pics later of her nasty feet (don't have the trimmed pics yet) and the scars she sustained while in the other persons' care.

Pics of June the day after she came home. Before vet or farrier was out to check on her. Obviously all four feet were like that. The farrier thought she was going to be difficult with her feet because they were so bad. Afterward he said "Nope. Just neglect." The last pic is her right side. It's a fatty, lumpy scar. Vet thinks this might be from vigorous spurring. She also has other scars that look like spurring or whipping. White lines where the hair has grown back white after the injury. She loves cookies, though! She eats them until I quit giving them. I bought her a fly mask today and she let me put that on without any fuss.

This is a mostly healed cut on her cheek. I assume from trying to reach through the barbed wire to get something to eat on the other side. (The barbed wire was on the adjacent pasture. Not on the property of the lady that helped me get her out.) All of her fences and gates were in good order. This one doesn't seem bad, but if you'd seen the "pasture" she was in, you'd know that these little scratches were from trying to eat the thistles and nasty weeds. This pic above is of the scars that weren't there previously. Poor little girl.

Any idea when she is going to foal or what she is bred to? Is her weight good? In the second to the last picture you have posted it looks like her weight is ok. I will keep my fingers crossed for her.

Her weight is good. Vet said she mostly needs more nutrition. She amazingly got enough calories, but not vitamins and minerals. Her protein is elevated as is her AST. She appears to be at risk for PSSM according to vet, though I don't know what information led to that. Though she is normally "cresty", that has all but fallen over. But, yes, her weight is decent in general.
I have started her on Equine (Purina) senior, so she has a complete feed as well as HorseGuard and a hoof supplement. She gets grass/alfalfa mix and is on our measly pasture. I just put her out with Chavez and the filly (A la Mode) earlier and she and Chavez were grooming each other a few minutes ago. :-)
I wish that she was bred to Finn, but going on the ultrasound (I need to go find the pics!), she's only been preggo for a couple of months, three or four at best, and I think, sadly, that rules out Finn. Best guess...she's due in March 2008.
We're waiting a couple of weeks on dewormer and vaccs. She'll get started on the 5th month mare/pregnancy shots as well. We think we have missed the window for the 3rd month one and are just going on from here.

What a sad tale for this girl. Wish she could have stayed in our trailer and come here after her first nasty ordeal.....THANKS SO MUCH LISA FOR STAYING ON HER TRAIL AND MAKING IT RIGHT AGAIN! P.S This mare was only listed through CBER, but believe she was always at Wayne's ranch along with Honey, Ben, Buster & the 3-in-l package (Merry/Serene).

Poor Finn he was so hoping to be a papa! (For anyone interested, we gelded Finn earlier than planned since we suspected the gal who owned June and Maggie was using Finn to breed them when we were not there. ) I thought well if Finn was the papa then at least we would know who it was and I could be a granny! (Not that I would choose to be a granny but I would take my granny job if it was an accident.)
Poor Junie, I just love this gal and you can see it in her eyes she has had it rough. But I bet she will be livin' it up at Lisa's in no time!

Well, how about Maggie then? Did she get bred? I can't believe that someone would do something like that. What nerve!!!!! If Finn was the daddy, it sure would of been a good looking horse. How long ago was he gelded? The vet could of been off on the age of the foal also. I know my doctor was when I had an ultra sound. He was off by 4 weeks.

Don't know if Maggie was bred, she was in season the week before Finn was gelded. Junie was kinda in season. The girl used to stand outside Finn's stall and tease him with the mares. One time when he was in the round pen exercising she had Maggie pushed up against the bars teasing him. The girl was a real piece of work! We were worried so we gelded him ASAP since we could only be out ther once a day.

When vet was out for the ultrasound, she recommended that Junie get some exercise before she gets too far along in her pregnancy to keep her healthy and not let her get too heavy. Well...Ashley and Oslo inspired me. I know that others have ridden her, or at least I hear tales of that, so I leaned over her back (on a mounting block) and hopped up and laid my weight on her. She is very food motivated so I kept some of her favorite cookies close by and every time she stayed right in place for me to mess around with her, I gave her a cookie. She quickly learned this game and loved it. I practiced from both sides and eventually swung my leg over. No reaction other than a head tilt to look for aforementioned cookie. Of course I forgot to take one up with me. We walked around our makeshift round pen a couple of times, stopping here and there. She has a great whoa, but has her own ideas about which direction she wants to go! ;D I just kept it as a good experience for both of us and gave her lots of treats when I hopped off. I don't have a saddle that fits her, so I just rode bareback and, of course, it's like riding a lounge chair. I had a bridle that fit her, but no bit, so I put a "bitless" nose band thingy on it and it worked fine. Other than the whole turning thing. Or lack thereof. My family was asleep. I kept hoping someone would come out to witness my joy (or folly, depending on your comfort level). I hopped on and off a couple of times and we quit for the day. She was happy and liked the treats ALOT!

Woo Hoo! Good for You! You might try Ground Driving - I'd be happy to show you how Mark Rashid does it (I would loan you my DVD if I had it!!! I loaned it out and have no idea who has it!!) it's really easy, and they learn to steer from the ground so it's much easier when you get on. That was the missing link with Dezi - ground driving. So I can honestly say it works.
I think she will make a great trail horse! As you know, I have always liked her!!! I think I have a 38" cinch from Dezi - it might work with your Cashel.....at least you could practice cinching........

Ahh...the $1,000,000 question. Am I keeping June's baby? Ideally, yes. I will keep the foal at least until it's a weanling and probably until it's a yearling, making sure it is growing correctly and has the very best possible start in life. If possible for my family at that time, I will keep it. I am in no rush to find it a new home, but am also realistic that 8 horses on 3 acres isn't pretty. I am curious to see "what" it will be though. I think it will be a very nice baby and could be your next 3-day-eventer, Rocky! Isn't that what it would be? Draft + light horse = Sporthorse Deluxe! MTA: Forgot what I came here for with the question of the day! I have taken June on a couple of trail rides with WendyP and Hystyle. She likes to go slow, but will trot if the mood strikes. She is happy to plod along behind their horses and just barely keep them in sight. When she feels they are TOO far away (like a mile... ) she'll trot to catch up. I've been using a Cashel soft saddle on her which seems to work perfectly. I don't have a regular saddle that fits her well. I have used my Circle Y on her and it just doesn't fit her shoulders. I'll have to buy some draft tack if I keep riding her much, but that will probably be a year or more from now as I don't anticipate riding her much when she is VERY pregnant or until the baby is weaned. I plan on riding her this weekend and will try for some pics. Remember...riding a draft makes your butt look littler. ;D

June is very calm, nothing bothers her, and she doesn't ever want to 'rush' into anything! She is seriously a sweetie!!! Where are we riding this weekend? Skull Hollow, Tumalo, somewhere new? If there's room I will take Lotti and Doodle - never hurts to get Doodle out some more!
