20+, 15.1h, black Tennesse Walker gelding. This gelding is a bit herd bound to a horse on the other side of the fence. It was hard to get him to focus on us or do what we asked on the ground. While he was pushy, he led, backed (not great), picked up his feet and was generally a good horse. He will need a refresher course in manners and learning about respecting people's space. His feet are long and he needs lots of groceries. His right front ankle is enlarged and probably has some arthritis but he trotted sound at the time of the assessment. He was worried when we rode him so we took him closer to fence where the horse that he is attached to was standing to see if he would ride better, and he did not. He did not try to buck, he was just not responsive to turning or stopping. He was also very protective of this horse he has bonded with, and we saw him aggressively chasing the other horses off. He might be proud cut. While his assessment was not great, he never showed us any signs of aggression... he just needs some fine tuning and different surroundings. www.columbiabasinequinerescue.org/DEF-HorsesProfile.asp?HoID=655ADOPTION FEE - $600 $400 pledged $200 and home offer still needed!!!!!!!(If not adopted outright please remember that Belgian Chocolate will also need a sponsor, or group of sponsors, to cover his board and QT until he is placed)

He looks like the Black TWH that was here in sacramento ( minus his long winter coat) if he is then he is very well trained just missing his companion who is a black and white paint mare. I will contact the owner of the black TWH that was here i think i still have her email. will keep you guys posted.

Is this the TWH that Halfwayhome was talking about a few weeks ago? If so, I remember her saying that he was used by the kids and that he was just standing around and the owners were going to take him to the feedlot if she couldn't find him a home in a week. Sounds like he spent his life without other horse companions. Perhaps he is so excited to have another horse companion that he's "claimed" one and will hold on to it for dear life.
This makes me very sad. I've just seen too many animals kept as singles that are so desperately lonely for their own kind. . .and/or have been ripped from a close bond. My deepest wish is for this guy to be given another chance.

I think HWH meant she had to drive by the owners house to see whether he was still there...... Why hasn't CBER listed him yet? Have they decided against it?

OK here comes a venting!
I f**k**g HATE SEEING ALL OF THE OLDER HORSES END UP ON THE FEED LOT!
For GODS sake if your a horse owner and if you think your OLD horse is no good anymore for riding or whatever, have the d**n decency to put the horse down. Instead of trying to make a few measley bucks off of the sale of the horse in question!
OK venting over, sorry ladies to put you all though that.

C'mon, folks, he's a Tennessee Walker! They are COOL, you WANT one! I've loved this breed ever since I was a little kid and I saw those shows where they prance around in that fancy walk. For some reason the celeb reality programming that I watched always had exposes on the Tennessee Walker show rings- people putting chains on their feet and doing all kinds of weird things to get them to walk nicer... that show always had slaughterhouse exposes, too. It was a weird kind of "celeb reality," but much appreciated... Save the Tennessee Walker!

History of the big lick movement, thanks to wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennessee_WalkerOf course, the more I read about it, the more abuse seems to be inherant in it- lots of "tricks" to get horses not bred for it to do that walk, most of them sound pretty unpleasant. Probably a good thing that you don't practice it

HEY Youse guys....just think how BEEUtiful he will be when all groceried and groomed. He's got ALOT of life in him and he is obviously yearning for a connection. How satisfying this one would be to foster - he would really bloom into a magnificient animal. Gussied up he would really stand an excellent chance for a good home - even if he ends up being a pasture pal.
All I got to give is some money - I have no land or space yet.
Wont someone out there share this vision? Ya know yer tipping....We just need $200 of the original $600 and a foster. He ships Monday. End of pitch....

By on hold, do you mean on hold by the feedlot owner or on hold-adoption pending and in ISO?
