Dash - 6-8 yr.old - 15.3hh - Bay QH Mare
Post by cybercat on Oct 27, 2006, 9:39pm
Dash - 6 -8 year old, 15.3+h, bay QH mare.
This big, great looking mare was sound when she arrived Wednesday, but is not sound today. Her feet are in terrible shape, long and cracked, and she might be suffering from a stone bruise or abscess, or may have been kicked. She was somewhat pushy on the ground when she was assessed.
We were told that she is registered and a "Dash For Cash" mare. We will confirm this when we see her papers.
Watch for updates on her condition and temperment.

Why is this mare, who was listed as sick, and lame, back on the adoption list for more money?
Can someone explain this to me? Yes, she is awsome and well bred but she was listed as sick, strangles I am guessing since it was rampid on the lot. Why now do we have to pay more for her safety?

She is young, beautiful, well bred, registered, and has a lifetime of use ahead of her. Her price seems fair, it's lower than a local horse might be, around here you'd give at least $1500 for one of comparable value. I can't believe she is not placed yet!

Trio was taken off the feedlot July 19, 2005 by Cowgirl-Spirit Rescue Drill Team (CGS). I think he was only at the feedlot for one day and he was nick-named "Blue" by CBER because his left eye is a little blue. I don't know if he was ever posted on the board. CGS called him Dallas. Here's his post on their website:

Dash is going to be picked up from the lot on Saturday and boarded a while in QT. We'll go over next week and take a look at those feet and see if we can't get her trimmed. My thought is she was probably pretty uncooperative with her feet and that's why they didn't get done. We'll be patient and kind with her and work her through any issues if that's the case.

Dash is home in QT. It was a busy day driving over from Olympia, picked her up at Sam's place and hauled her home. She is one tired pony and she is gorgeous. She has goopy eyes right now that we'll have to clean up and looks like a halter was left on her at some point because of the dent in her face, poor thing.
She was a little difficult to halter because she was scared but never mean. Sam helped halter and load her in the trailer and she walked right in. She hauled great, didn't move around much, never panicked and didn't paw. And no poop in the trailer.... weird. We're going to watch that.
Here are some pictures of the beautiful girl.
and the feet..... poor girl.
I'll post more pictures of her in her new QT home this weekend when I get a chance.

I am in love already .
Learned her registered name is Highwater Chick, her grand-sire is Dash for Cash and she's had 2 owners, born in Omak, WA and later moved to Mansfield, WA. Talked with the 2nd owner and learned that her barn name was Dolly (yuck) and "she's crazy in the head and will flip over backwards when working with her but she'd make a great brood mare." If she's so crazy in the head why would you breed her? Doh. I offered to email pictures of her and the previous owner didn't want them. That makes me sad .
My friend, Pat Wagner, and I played with her last night and today (Parelli Rocks!!) and she's not crazy, just scared to death. Poor girl, someone has done something to her that has made her very frightened of humans. We were able to trim her front feet (pictures coming) but we'll need to work with her on picking up her hinds. Surprisingly she is not lame at all. We're going to give updates on Pat's website at www.heelfirstlandings.com. Pat is a natural hoofcare practitioner certified by AANHCP. She has trimmed feet like this before and it won't be long before Dash's feet will be looking good. They already look better after the first trim today.
She's very smart and brave. I spent several hours with her today, approach and retreat, and letting her be curious about me. Pat also played with her and worked on desensitizing her to the rope (she's frightened of it touching her). This morning she wouldn't let us get near her and by the end of the day we were able to walk up and touch her. That was HUGE . She tried really hard today and I think we made a big difference with her, she certainly made a big difference with us. We'll play with her again tomorrow and see how she does. She's smart, brave and absolutely gorgeous. She also has a forever home with me and Trio.
I'll post pictures of her soon and pictures of us playing with her.

Echo, where are you located? Maybe I've been to your house with Pat. I'm the "beautiful assistant." he he.
I know! Her feet look better already. I can't believe she's not lame (thankfully!). Yep, the cracks will grow out. Her frogs are basically non-existent. I'm going to start feeding her Hoof Power which will assist with the feet (recommended by Pat). She's at my home now (was at Pat's since last Tuesday) and she's settled right in. She's awesome loading and hauling in the trailer and comes out very calm. I'll be hanging out with her in her paddock. She is one tough cookie. Her expression is stoic, she doesn't have any favorite scratchy spots yet and her lips are always tight. She really needs confidence and to learn to trust humans.
My favorite picture so far.... nice white barrel huh???
This was huge getting this close to her and putting the rope over her neck. She's scared to death of the rope.

Why is this mare, who was listed as sick, and lame, back on the adoption list for more money?
Can someone explain this to me? Yes, she is awsome and well bred but she was listed as sick, strangles I am guessing since it was rampid on the lot. Why now do we have to pay more for her safety?

I thought she had always been $875. I have a copy of an email to my sister about her 11/3 where I said she was the higher price. When I saw the lower price here, I thought that reflected a donation.

She is young, beautiful, well bred, registered, and has a lifetime of use ahead of her. Her price seems fair, it's lower than a local horse might be, around here you'd give at least $1500 for one of comparable value. I can't believe she is not placed yet!

I have a Parelli study-buddy/great friend who is a hoof care practitioner and she knows we can whip those feet into shape. Her website is heelfirstlandings.com/. Dash will certainly be a success story on the web page.
And, a big THANK YOU to cybercat for accidentally giving me Vickie's email address. She responded and we're moving forward with the adoption. That was a great oops

$20.00 marcia (Sent in CBER# 1536)
$10.00 mustang1 (sent in CBER# 1530)
$30.00 triosmom (CBER#1542)
$110.00 triosmom (CBER#1539)
$700.00 triosmom (CBER#1544)
