MARLEY - Age unknown - 15.1h+ - QH Gelding
Post by foxie on Aug 22, 2006, 3:24pm
Marley - Sweet Chestnut QH type gelding with 4 white socks and a blaze. Approx. 15.1+ hands, very gentle and easy to handle, will pick up his feet-he will also set himself up properly like a showmanship horse with a little encouragement! his feet look pretty good and he has had care. Trots sound and will trot on lead with encouragement. We are told this guy was used for some packing and a little riding, but have not confirmed that ourselves at this time. Good boy that came in with Lancelot. Has all the "chrome" to be fancy cleaned up. Has some edema on his belly that appears to be from allergy to fly bites, etc.
$775
Arrived - 8/22/2006

he is sound, the sheath is just big, teeth are fine... and they thought he was a healthy guy.... with a bit of snotty nose.

Well Foxie, we will just have to see!
I just walked in the door from bringing him and Sunrise home...
Sunrise is just a visitor for a few nights, but Mr Bob Marley is here for good!
He is so far quite calm, and quiet, but he is sick
he left with a snotty nose, but arrived her with an abcess brewing... I guess the strangles fairy found him too... so, QT QT QT.... but when sick, they don't mind so much.
I am glad we thought to keep him and the NOT sick Sunrise separated in the trailers, both the long hauler, and mine... so she should be safe... and she was put in the barn, in a toasty warm stall for the night... (well, it was 95 here today, so every where is toasty warm.. hehe)
they both sucked down 4 inches of water... and she has pooped...
he did not poop on the truck all day, but did pee here upon arrival... so, he got a nice sloppy wet beet pulp and Elk Grove pellet mash, with a nice topper of mineral oil... hehe.. sneeky.
and she got just a plain sloppy mash.
welcome to CA...!!!
He is very nice looking, might be a draft cross... very heavy neck and shoulder... and a mane that goes on both sides, with a spiral curl... like a suffolk punch! (I have two of those!)
She is absolutely beautiful.... a beautiful refined almost arab-y face... much taller than he is... amazing either one was a throwaway... truely.
well, off to bed, gotta go to work in the am... after tending to the new ones again!!!
ttfn!!
Beth

Oh, Beth! I read the above and thought you were letting him eat his peed on food. Obviously, not after reading on, but cracked me up for a minute.
Marley is so beautiful. I love his windswept look in some of the pictures. Congratulations to all.

Kodie is all scabbed up from hers. And it seems baron has one coming too. Poor guys!
I hope he recovers quick and wasnt stressed out on the ride!

Morning all!!
LOL! I guess I was tired... the mind just wasnt' thinkin too fast last night when I posted...
PLEASE rest assured, the mash was wet with warm water... hehe, not pee...
but I was real happy about the pee.... even if it WAS dark... dehydration is a huge bummer.
So this am all is well...
Marley has pooped... and he seems to have rolled overnight so he must have felt secure.
China (Sunrise) is also doing fine... settled in well...
both pooped overnight, and she peed again (don't see one for him yet)
OK OK, I'm a nurse practitioner!!! I have to make sure the body functions are ok!!!
and YES... I AM gonna check his sheath soon, not today...
(but he dropped and it's pretty clean... hehe, I DID check since I got a good view!!)
I am sure the ride stressed him out some, but he seems ok.
very friendly, so it shouldn't be hard to treat it when it bursts...
I wonder if that is what his belly swelling was... god I hope it isn't strangles on his belly... but I can't go sitting under him just yet to get a good view of the belly swelling thing...
Pictures are uploading now, will add in a few...
You were right Tina, he is beautiful!!! a hunk!!!

Baron seems to be doing better, I seperated him and kodie and he's in the pan Marley was in, and he's all perky and full of P&V... I'm thinkin he might have escaped strangles somehow! Woohoo! His lump is gone too.
Well hopefully Marley gets well soon, and cant wait to see pics of you riding him!

Oh Aimee,
I am so happy you kept quiet about the snots...
he got down here fine, and I'm sure this would have kept him there another month or two...
and I wanted to see and care for him myself!!! I know, maybe I'm selfish...
but I wanted to bond with my boy!!
I think he did fine travelling, none the worse for wear...
I think he was going to get sick there, or here... so, got him here before he got really feeling bad... so that is a good thing!
that lot crud is yukky,
I wonder if Baron had it just a mild case, before he got there...
glad he is better now...!!! and now, he can just 'be' and not 'protect', maybe he'll be a nicer boy...!
I'll let you know when he comes off QT, and we can ride him...
right now, I'm afraid he is stuck in a small pen, keeping his snot to himself.
gotta scrub that trailer today, have a horse to haul today, then taking Angel to her new home Saturday after a horse show! that trailer is getting plenty of use this weekend!!!
thanks for taking such good care of my boys... my 'almost' boy Baron, and then my 'new' boy Marley... I sure appreciate it!!!

Hi all...
there is just NO news to be had during QT!!!
but today was his first day OUT!!!
his coming out party was full of fun...
a romp in the arena, then a beautiful jump into the garden and out again!!! yes, that is kinda like a gymnastic in jumping... 2 solid 3 footers just a perfect 3 strides apart!
and baboom! he was out in the pasture with the herd!
how nice is that?
ahem...
after I caught him, we tried on a saddle, and I've now arranged for a teenager to take the first spin, then it's MY turn!!!
I guess those 18 inch jumps in hurry scurry won't be any prob for him???
I'll get some pics tomorrow... maybe enen clean him up some first!
hehe, we are on a well, and the well is very dry right now, so we don't waste any water on bathing horses... sorry!!!
but, brushes really do get them clean enough... promise! and his feet get a trim finally on Thursday... farrier was kinda weird about doing him on QT... and they were ok... so I waited.
but he is ready now! his romp made a few chips... nothing bad.
now, to figure out where he'll live for winter! (we have several small groups in big paddocks for winter... when the rain comes I have to shut them out of the pasture so it can grow and not become 'mud skiing hill'...

update here!
Mr Marley failed moving into the pasture...
My appy gelding who thinks he is a stud... well, he beat him up for a few days, and Mr Marley didn't get to eat or really even leave his corner of the pasture...
soooooo... out he came, and while I was filling a water trough, he decided he didn't want to live in the arena... he wanted his OLD paddock... hehe, so off he went up the hill to find it. and find it he did. up the hill, thru the barn "ahem... THIS is where "I" should live!" thru the barn yard, up the driveway, stop for a bite to eat while mom catches her breath... then past the house, round the side... AHHHH, there is my pen!!! sigh, home. at last.
So, that done, I called my buddy Linika and she came over tonight and hopped on the old boy! He was full of energy, and even looked like a hot wire ready to shoot off... but he didn't. He was hyper alert... but kept his control. light on the aides... and really tried.
I think after a few more refreshers I might have the guts to get up on him...
let's just say it won't be like ridin' Taffy!!! LOL!!!
We got some pics on my farrier's phone, as soon as she sends them, I'll post!!!
next time, I'll bring my camera.... promise!!!
