KASEY - 11 y/o 14.3h - Bay QH Mare
Post by foxie on Jan 22, 2006, 8:51pm
KASEY - 11 year old, 14.3+h, bay Quarter Horse type mare. Though this mare is nervous, she is a very nice willing mare. She was easy to jog for soundness, wants to please and settled with more handling. She is straight legged, well put together, and has a great eye. She did react to me putting my arm over her back was a bit too nervous for me to feel comfortable to climb on, especially with the ground being concrete, no soft landing there!
$725

She sure looks in great condition and so BEAUTIFUL! What a classic beauty this is! I could see her under English tack, she could be in shows! She does look part TB. Very refined and elegant.

Yep, possibly part warmblood, Hannoverian maybe?
Did you notice in her extra photos how her white stripe is kinda wiggly and rolls down across her muzzle? Interesting!

It would be interesting in the future to take a cheap saddle blanket out and see how they react, not all horses can be ridden bareback, but minimal reaction to a pad may show that they have had a little work.

This probably doesn't help much, but I would full foster if she could be bailed and transported down here. Unfortunately I am in Los Angeles. But if she can find some angels to pay her way, I'd be happy to board her and work with her. I am approved.
I know, it's a long shot...

briggsbay pledged to fund for Kasey
Post by toolbot on Jan 25, 2006, 6:17am
725 dollars was just pledged to the pull and general expenses fund for Kasey by briggsbay who is sending the funds via paypal with the comment "She will be coming to Bend, OR with Amethyst"
This brings the pull and general expenses fund for Kasey total to 725 dollars. This means 0 dollars are still needed to meet the feedlot owner price of 725 dollars.

Sorry, I didn't see this question sooner.....
Kasey is doing great. She was a little nervous at first, but has settled right in. She is very sweet, was great for the farrier, but she has some pain/stiffness in her hips, not terrible, but you could see that it hurt if he lifted her leg too high - so he didn't. She seems to be getting better each day. I put a saddle on her last week, and she didn't bat an eye. As soon as we can get some chiro work done on her, then we will try getting on and see what she knows.
Thanks for asking! She actually has white socks that were totally invisible due to the mud. I will post pics soon.

Kasey update.....Chiro coming next week, also vet is coming to check teeth. Last weekend a trainer friend worked with Kasey to see how much she knows - well she knows Parelli games! She and trainer spoke the same language (I'm not a Parelli follower, I'm more of a Mark Rashid fanatic) and the trainer was amazed that such a nice horse would end up on the feedlot. The trainer did get on Kasey bareback, and she was very responsive in just a halter and lead/reins, but her back is still sore so she only rode for a minute or two. Hopefully the chiro will be able to help her next week. Kasey has gained weight, filled out, and is just a very sweet horse.

This is almost certainly a case of undiagnosed pain leading to bad behavior leading to the horse being dumped. Familiar story. How lucky she is to be in the hands of knowledgeable horsepeople now!

The Chiro came today and worked on Kasey.......she definitely had some back soreness and pelvic pain. The Chiro certainly feels she is 'fixable' and doesn't think it will take more than a few sessions to get her back to normal. We will let her rest for a couple of days, and then saddle her and see what she knows, if she isn't sore. She has been ridden bareback a little, and saddled once with no problems, so hopefully she will remember how to be a good girl!!!! I won't be riding her - I have a trainer that bounces better than me!!!!

We had a backsore horse years ago who was fine bareback, and bucked with a saddle! She may actually wind up being more comfy bareback until her back issues are resolved.

Kasey seems to be over her back soreness, so I worked with her last weekend for a couple of hours - we worked on standing still at the mounting block. Okay, my mounting block for bareback riding is a turned over metal trough - a regular mounting block just isn't tall enough. It took a while to get Kasey comfortable with standing next to the trough, but patience always pays off! By the time we ended the session, Kasey was standing next to the trough, let me get on, sit for a few minutes, and get off, and repeat. She was very relaxed at the end. She still has nervous issues - she 'jumps' a little if anything new touches her....she is very afraid of the poop fork, no matter how often I pet her her skin will still jump a little.....poor girl obviously has had some rough treatment. She has been here longer than Lotti (Cherri), and she just isn't as comfortable as Lotti is... hopefully time and tenderness will help her. I plan to work with her tomorrow, and hopefully saddle and ride her. She does okay bareback.........
I would love to find a kind, patient, female who just wants to ride a little, and love her alot, to take Kasey as a forever home. The plan has always been to rehome her, but it has to be someone who is very calm and patient. She isn't mean at all, has never offered to bite or kick, she just isn't totally trusting yet. She knows a bunch of the Parelli stuff, so someone cared about her at some point...............She is about 14.2hh, and I prefer closer to 16hh.
I will keep working with her and hopefully get her to trust more........

Thanks! There really isn't much grass - the horses have eaten it down pretty short, but that's okay because my old horses won't founder on it. We are lucky to have such a great view.
