$775 adoption fee $220 pledged (Swissgirl - THANK YOU!) $225 so far from the generous FOB's $350 still needed backup home offer from Deb 11 year old, 15.2h, line back dun gelding. This horse came running up to us for attention and help. He does not want to be where he is. He was very easy to halter and handle on the ground. Willingly lifted up both front and hind feet. He was easy to ride, tossed his head at pressure but neck reined and responded well to leg pressure. He is not 100% sound. Asked the FLO if he was told anything and this is what her told us. The horse was used as a ranch horse, he can no longer withstand hard riding. He needs shoes to maintain sound. The FLO also reported that the old owners also said that the gelding has retracted heels. While we are not vets and not claiming to be, this horse sounds like he might be suffering from navicular. A vet exam is suggested. Email Heidi for more information @ CreeksideAQHA@aol.comPICTURES COMING SHORTLY!!!

We will get the pictures up shortly.....
While I am NOT a vet, and there is NO guarantee, Reno had pretty much the same, if not worse possible diagnosis when my friend Jen got him......all he needed was corrective shoeing, and he's fine. He continues to need shoes on his front, but he's doing great.
I'm NOT saying that this horse will, or will not, have that same outcome, but he was easy to ride. Even if he's only good to go for light trail riding or easy arena work (i.e. no barrels/poles, etc....) he looks like he'd be one special horse to have......

He's a nice looking guy- sturdy..........certainly an easy-keeper........might work for gentle 'Husband rides'. This would be worth a 'Vet check". Anyone able to pay Mapleway for a 'looksee'?

Retracted heels? Needs corrective shoeing to remain sound? THAT SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE MY HORSE! No big deal here, folks.

What is the brand? Bar M? Oh, and btw, if this boy snuck into my barn... I would DEFINATELY not tell!!! woohoo!!! those feet just need a few months of a Pete Ramey trim, boots and pads... and if all else... shoes with pads... but I'd bet at his age, just a Pete Ramey trim for a few months, develop his digital cushion, and he'd be good as new! and ready for me to ride... ooops... well.... I can't afford him... but ready for SOMEONE lucky to ride!!! Into the sunset... Did you get a look at the V between those front legs? woohoo!!! Yeeha! oh boy I like this one!!!

I have to agree with Beth on this one, sounds like this kid has had shoes on for most of his life which affected the digital cushion......Though I am NO expert, sounds like Poppy's problem!

Again you guys, without a vet confirmation I'm NOT SAYING that his outcome will be the same as Reno's...but if he was a ranch horse, his previous owner looked at him as a commodity, not a companion.....and to him it make more sense to send him to the lot than to pay a vet to confirm a diagnosis and then pay for the needed care. In most instances they just want easy keepers, no problems. And a horse that can't work is worthless to them. Not saying that's right, but that's probably how they were raised. (we're all raising our children much better than that, right?)
I wish I could take him...but hubby's not going for it at all... I hope there's someone out there that can offer this boy a good home!

WOW, I swear if I lived closer, this guy would be off the lot already and tucked away in a stall..... What an awesome boy!!!! We need to get him off the lot. I'm sorry guys, I will have to leave for a wedding in about 1.5 hours, and won't be back until tomorrow night. So I will not be of any help today. My BF would kill me if I bring another one home..... But this one is nice...... I will send in $100 for this guy now, as I can't wait for the okay to send in Pledges. If he does get outright adopted today, feel free to move that around! Boy he is nice......... very nice...... Arrow would love him as a buddy...... don't need another horse, don't need another horse.........
Hope he will be save!!!!
Mod. to add: just saw that all the other horses have all their bail, so I'll move my pledges from Joyous and Pumpkin over to this guy. That makes $200.00 from me!

Navicular, shmavicular!
While there are no guarantees.....navicular "syndrome" is something you can work with. A solid diagnosis, some digital xrays, and creative hoof management can work wonders. And if all that fails, a neurectomy is an option. This guy is a classic navicular horse, and he may just need some good TLC. They CAN and DO go serviceably sound, with time and management. It can be one of the most satisfying experiences of your life.

OK, guys, I have exchanged emails with Heidi, the PS, and also talked to my husband. Per Heidi there are currently no outright adoption offers for Tucson. Hopefully that might change, but in the meantime, here is my offer:
I can offer Tucson a backup home in CA. I would eventually re-home him. This is what I would need to make it happen:
1-- Bail paid 2-- Deb to donate 30 days QT board (I hope you can, Deb, since you have offered a backup home already)
I will cover vet and transport. Once he arrives in CA, I will take him down to Pioneer Equine for a lameness eval and xrays with "Uncle Jerry"(aka Dr. Jerry Black) and then get to work on getting him sounder. I am experienced with lamenesses such as this and don't mind the time and effort needed.
BUT....if anyone out there is considering this guy, PLEASE jump on it. I am just wanting to save him from The Truck. He is too nice to be killed.
OK, I have to sign off for the day. Will check back later and see what is up.
