Calgal, go for it. I think your idea of the foal cam is great!.
I saddled Sable today and I forsee my first ride sooner then anticipated pending her age clarification and a 1,2 over by the vet next month when he comes for her wolf teeth and vac's. She is a pretty solidly built gal and getting quite full of herself bucking, running and even a few rears, lol. She is going to keep me busy.
Someday, we will get a horse for my girls but right now i will be content with Sable letting my 8 yr old sit on her for walks. she even likes picking her pen/stall out my kind of kid!

Calgal, if you take her now, I will agree to adopt her after the baby is weaned assuming she is broke and sound enough for light riding (typical old age arthritis, etc. is fine!). She is the size and type I have been looking for, but I will have much more time for a new horse this fall, so that might work out perfectly!

I will post pics. You will even be able to watch her foal if desired. We are setting up a foal cam for the pregnant mares that come here. StefnJen may be also, or foaling here with us. Not sure who will be first. Trina and Cricket seem to be developing at close to the same rate!! And from what I've heard, muffin is due this spring too.

Muffin arrived about 4:30 and seemed to have weathered the drive just fine. No current signs of illness and she certainly isn't missing an appetite. She didn't like sharing her trailer ride with ANYONE. I guess she was the prima dona and letting all the other horses know that they were in HER space! Nothing like a few pregnancy hormones to drive us ladies crazy, huh? Will clean her up tomorrow, get the dirties off of her and take some pictures. I'll know better how she handles after all of that. Tonite she gets to just unlax. Thanks to all the ladies on the lot that helped get her here. V.

Flash, Bozeman and Muffin all came to the lot together. I wonder if Muffin is the mother of the two boys. I think that Flash and Bozeman kind of look alike. They both have blazes that end with little diamonds on their noses. Hope that Muffin settles down and has a very healthy baby. MJ

Well, this morning Muffin is coughing. I don't suppose we'll dodge the bullet this time. I have a vet appt for tomorrow so will be on it promptly. No other symptoms, and I haven't attempted the thermometer yet...will try a bit later. She hasn't lost her appetite, but the hay seems to make the coughing worse so she will be on a pelleted feed.

Flash arrived. Lori doesn't seem to think that Muffin could be Flash's mom. She looks too different. Is a cough a symtom of strangles? A cough could just be a cold. With her age, she isn't as likely to get strangles as a younger horse. Hope the cough clears up soon. MJ

Isn't flash gorgeous?!?! No, I don't think Muffie is his mom. Actually, I think she has some appy blood in her. I think I'm seeing some faint spots. Will know more as she sheds out. Also some striping in her feet.
Coughing has been one of the symptoms that the rest of the horses have been displaying prior to getting the abscesses. Her glands are quite swollen. She does better when eating pelleted feed, and I'm making a bran mash tonite to see if she will eat a bit more. I want to get some fluids in her with the mash. She isn't pooping as much as I'd like to see even though she is eating pretty well.

Hope she perks up soon. I know that you will be happier when she is healty. I haven't heard Flash cough yet. He does have a bit of a snotty nose today and doesn't seem real lively. I don't really know him yet, so I don't know if that is normal for him. Ryan did say that he was rather nervous and had a lot of energy. I am not seeing that so far. Of course, this is a much calmer place than the feedlot, so maybe he will be calmer here. Mary Jane

I had the vet out today, twice, but thats another story. She said its probably just a virus as muffin seems very healthy otherwise. No fever, no abscess. She said the enlarged lymph nodes are also an indicater that her system is fighting off something, but didn't think it was strangles. She can sure eat. And is quite talkative, especially when she sees a bucket. She llooked at crickets skin and thinks it was lice. We couldn't see any indication of anymore bugs, so with a couple more treatments we should have it under control.

Well, it will be nice when I adopt her to have an easy keeper for a change! I usually have these scrawny TB's that take $100 worth of supplements monthly to keep weight on. The more I hear about her, the better she sounds. The good thing about Muffin is that she is round and healthy so she's in a better position to fight off the feedlot nasties than a lot of these poor debilitated horses.

I saw her and thought, oh, too bad she's pregnant, she'd be perfect for me if she wasn't. So she can go to your place and have the baby and then come to southern California and be a spoiled "only horse" where it will be all about her

I am an approved foster and have room, her bail is paid, and we have an offer of a permanent home. If someone can transport her to the West side I can feed her and house her.

Cat, how attached are you to the name Muffin? Hubby and I think she needs to be a Miss Lily (Langtree) named after a diva in the movie *the life and times of judge roy bean*. Being she is such a diva herself it really seems to fit her. Miss Lilly or Lily. ?
