That's pretty unusual, a chestnut with NO white. He'll be a good starter horse for somebody.

Is there anything going on for this gelding? How much longer do we have?
I am talking it over with my husband and possibly can offer him a home, with transporation as my investment....
I will get in touch with Shawna as soon as I know for certain whether I can offer him a home.

I have to share a story - Our daughters first horse was 25 years old when we bought her (for $1,000-she was just a good old ranch horse, a grade mare with a lifetime of experiences, but not show trained). I figured she would be really good for Kelli to start on, and then she could progress up to a younger, more refined training type of horse. One horse is rarely able to do everything a kid wants to do for 10-15 years - the kids usually outgrow the horse in some way. So, Kelli rode Seabreeze for a couple of years, built up her confidence, and then graduated to a younger paint gelding with tons of training. I had kinda assumed that Seabreeze would live to be 29 or 30, and since she became a pasture pet (only because nobody rode her after that) it was no big deal. Well, I had to put her down two weeks ago at the ripe old age of 36! No, she wasn't rideable up to the age of 36, but she also was not expensive to keep either.
I would not have traded Seabreeze for a million dollar show horse - she was so good with Kelli - took great care of her, but challenged her to be a better horseperson also. These older horses are well worth the money. You can't just train this kind of experience into a horse - it takes age and a lifetime of circumstances to get a 'good old gelding'.

Wendy, thanks for sharing this wonderful story. When I got Gem off the feedlot, he was guessed to be between 17 and 20, I think he was in his early twenties. Best horse I have ever owned, made me a better horse person. He was very stoic, and same thing, I would NOT have sold him for any amount of money. These "old" guys are worth every penny, and even though I was not a beginner when I got Gem, I could put little kids on him, and he was a babysitter, but when I got on him, he challenged me, he knew he could. I hope somebody can see past the number next to the age, and give this wonderful boy a good home.
Mod. to add: if somebody is interested in him, and does need help. I'm offering $100.00 towards his bail.

I have a big soft spot for the "old" guys, myself. And the older you get (people), the more careful you have to be. I know for me, if I get hurt riding, when I'm the one who does the physical work/mucking, etc., daily, I'd be hurting in more ways than one. These steady eddy horses are also great for riding with friends who are beginners.
The safe, confident, dependable horses are worth 20 times their weight in gold. And he was probably a camp horse -- he's worked his way through life and now it's time for him to count not just for what he can so wonderfully do, but because he's worthy, being himself. The older guys are so affectionate, smart, wise and sweet, in my experience -- because they've been there, done that, and know what's what.
And what a flaming sorrel he is. A real beauty.
Saying prayers for you, Rufus, that someone finds the treasure in you, in time. You deserve a place where you will never have to worry again, never go without, and where you get to be a horse, again, and even to be happy. I wonder who you think of and miss ... I know that spot can be filled, again, and a feedlot ending turned into a sunny, new beginning.
We all know you're special, no matter what happens.
Em

Let me speak here........I have Duke and Little R with me now. They were from this feedlot. This feedlot owner ships direct to Mexico. IF A HORSE stands out to him and looks like they really, really should not be shipped, he pulls them out and brings them here to give them a chance. If you saw and were in the company of Duke and Little R, you would understand that the feedlot owner has one amazing eye, for the horses he pulls out are nothing short of awesome. They are special and gifted and stood out to a TRAINED eye through the midst of hundreds. So, if you are wanting a horse, trust that these horses are above and beyond what what the photos and write ups show. I have the proof and you could not buy Duke, my (Captain Jack Sparrow) for a million bucks, I kid you not. Little R (Pocohantas) already has a line up of people begging for her. Trust me, these are special, special horses. Give them the chance, even our most disliked person on earth did!
