I really am so worried about him. I thought he was safe! I thought the heart murmer info was just info, I missed whatever post said his fate was back up in the air. This poor, hard-working, courageous horse. He worked most likely all his life, and I'm praying that he is held back and gets a miracle. It's one of the ones I'd take if I could. I *love* the older horses! He needs a soft place to fall, it should've been guaranteed! He's not disposable! He's not an old coat or an empty soda can -- he's a being that was horribly betrayed, after all he gave for his humans. Em Shawna, you are always a beacon of light on a stormy night. Thank you for caring so much about this old guy!!

Any info on Roper? Since he was betrayed at the last minute can he be held back so we can raise his money? That's only fair..right??

You never know how many horses are on the lot on shipping day, Roper may get lucky.

He's safe right? An adopter or did Shawna take him?

I know that Roper had a lot of fans. He's going to MD, but Barb his new owner, needs a little help with transportation. Please see the thread in the general section: Upper Marlboro Five Need Help Coming Home.

Roper arrived in Maryland late on Feb. 17, 2008. The truck couldn't make it around the curve in the driveway and the horses were walked to their new digs. Barb said that Earl (Roper) walked along not phased by anything. He ate a little hay and then had a good roll in the Maryland dirt. He seems to be the boss of the older guys (George and Biko (Lennox)). He enjoys carrots and getting attention. A couple pictures of his first full day in Maryland.

What's the news on his heart murmur?

Here's what Barb told me, "The regular vet listened to Earl's heart and said it was not that bad. I had planned to bring a stethoscope yesterday, but didn't make it out as planned. The cardiologist, is coming out at the end of the month. We needed to give them time to settle in to make sur that any anomalies were not stress-related."

Poor Earl has had his share of bad luck, but seems to be on the road to recovery. He has an abscess on his left hind which took some time to heal because he wouldn't let anyone soak it. Then he got a cut on another leg, but it's looking much much better now. Of course I went out to visit and was the one to discover it. There were flies all over the place, which was strange because I hadn't noticed that many on the others. I crawled under the fence and saw the cut. He just wanted someone with him for comfort. So, I stood there and shooed the flies away and gave him some love. I gave Barb a call and then she contacted the farm manager to take a look at it. He's all healed up now. Here's a picture of Frankie and Earl grazing taken on 5/17: This was taken on 4/19 when he was in a separate paddock because of the abscess:

Glad to hear that your oweeees are all healed up. Heart murmurs are interesting. See you are still with your friend Frankie. Looking good!
