15 yr, 14.3h, registered mare - registration number 318776. Comes with a breeders certificate. This mare has most likely been used a broodmare for a while and would best if schooled for 15 - 30 days. She rode okay but was not super responsive. She was not good about being bridled so John just rode her in a rope halter. She needs work on backing and turning but did not attempt to buck. She was not willing to have her teeth looked at so we are going off what her papers say. Please contact Wendy DeGraaf for more information.EMAIL:cberwendy@earthlink.netADOPTION FEE: $ 500.00 QT FEE: $ 300.00 HAULING FEE: $ 30.00 PAYPAL FEE: $ 27.90 ________________________ TOTAL FUNDS NEEDED: $ 857.90
HOME OFFERS: Supaloma spoke with Sam, and Classy is being pulled this morning to keep her safe. Still needs home & funds.

BTW, if any CBER volunteer decides to adopt her, an anonymous person has pledged to pay $200 to her bail. Here is a list of the CBER volunteers, in case anyone feels like picking someone and bugging them... columbiabasinequinerescue.org/DEF-Volunteers.asp

Also, please note that Sam has dropped her price by $100 in order to remove the CBER fee, so her bail should be $500, not $600. Hi All, I must thank the ICERS for helping us keep track of the 1,000 of horses we place annually. It is f act that Classy Sun Glow has been sold back to the feedlot. She was originally named Miss Piggy and was adopted in 06. We are dropping the $100 fee (taxes will still apply $50) to make her more adoptable and if she does not get adopted I will sponsor her. I will not let this mare ship that goes against everything I stand for. Thanks, Sam

I think that's what a "Breeders Certificate" is? ?

Post by fivemile on Feb 13, 2008 16:37:59 GMT -5
Yes, it is what a breeders certificate would indicate but she doesn't look bred to me. Does anyone know for sure? I really hate seeing any horses here but the bred mares especially bother me.

Since this was a previous CBER rescue horse, CBER should pull her immediately and take her in until rehomed. They should have done this the minute they knew her identity so she wouldn't get sick at the lot. They should also contact the original adopters that should have signed at least the BOS that says on it ( among other things), right where they must initial and where they must sign, "I agree that this horse cannot be resold for slaughter". They need to find out the facts of her ending back at the lot. Was CBER contacted and asked to take her back before the FLO owner got her? If not, maybe the adoption agreement needs more teeth? IMO As a rescue, they need to maintain the original commitment made to this horse when she was on the lot the first time and was removed into a home. I realize you may not know my tone, and will say I am badmouthing, but that is not so, I would feel this way about ANY rescue of ANY kind of animal they place. This type of dialogue needs to be in the open for communication and for things to be made better. I will probably get jumped on for saying all this, but feel strongly that all rescues have a responsibilty that when an animal has been accorded "sanctuary" once, it should never have to worry again. There needs to be follow-up, tracking of placements and ENCOURAGEMENT and help to all the adopters so that they feel comfortable in returning a horse if their circumstances have changed etc.

I do not know the background of how this mare ended up back on the lot. It's horrible she is facing a second time around.
We can't control everything that happens or be 100% when a horse gets adopted but a rescue needs to step up to the plate once the horse is in their cycle. It does then become their responsibility. Sam has stated she will not let her ship.

Perhaps there should be a monetary fine for an adopter breaking the contract provisions. We need to find out from the adopter what happened. As maybe they did get permission to rehome the horse.

I agree that this mare should be taken off the lot immediately. If Sam will sponsor her anyway, take her off the lot before she gets sick or injured, but leave her for adoption.

Not badmouthing. From what I know of other Rescues, they do step in and enforce the contract when something goes wrong. Bottom line: she needs to be safe in QT until she is adopted out.
