Hi all I just wanted to leave an update about Hawkeye. He is doing so great this suimmer and loving the freedom of the pasture, yesterday he got a wild hair and was galloping around the pasture bucking and rearing, he has so much spunk in this warm weather!!! His hip seems to be doing well, and he seems to know when it has had enough and will slow down for awhile after his little wild hair episodes. He is looking very sleek and showy for the summer!! I will get new pics soon.

I wish it left me with a vacancy but we have to get moved to our own place and then I will have plenty of vacancy, we are still remodeling this house (2 years later) and then we can sell and look for horsey land of our own.
Oh and I forgot to say Hawkeye will only be about 20 minutes from us in his new home, so we can see him when we want. Perfect home and they are so nice and loving to their other horse. They are really incredible people.

UPDATE: Hawkeye went to his new home yesterday (I am sure Bre & Deb will post pics soon ) Here is how the trip went. We went to borrow the trailer from Hytyme so we could haul him and usually Hawkeye is not the easiest horse to load and last time he hit his head so I was paranoid. So I made Deb (Mothergoose) Bre (static) and Dave (Deb's hubby) come down to help me so they drove down with their mom to help (2 hour drive I might add) and we got the trailer there and opened it up, Dave took Hawkeye and he walked in 1 time and backed out and then just hopped right in!!! So we changed their visit to a horse field trip visit instead since they didn't have to load a crazy horse!! You never know what they will do and sometimes they surprise you!! So off to the new house we go. It is about 20 mins away. Well we got there and he hopped out and went right into Erin and Shelley's yard and we called Tinkerbelle (His new girlfriend) to meet him. She is a very sweet 25 yr old Arab who foundered & slipper feet really bad and Shelley and Erin rescued her and got her founder surgery to keep her going. Her feet are a little deformed but she gets around great and isn't in any pain. The vet says she is a miracle horse. Hawkeye liked her immediately (although there was some squealing going on). Shelley and Erin have a great place, it is a long 2-3 acres and it has an open barn and tons of trees and a creek, it is very flat too (Hawkeye needed that) It is very woodsy so the horses look like they are walking through a forest. Hawkeye then checked out all the shavings in the barn and explored right around us, then he took a BIG roll!! He liked it there you could tell. Then he took off through the woods....he could care less about us now cause he had his little shadow Tinkerbelle following him in tow!! A little while later my hubby walked down through the woods and checked on them and took off his halter. He said they were down there grazing in a green patch (Hawkeye's favorite) and he looked perfectly happy. So I think it is an excellent match!!!
BIG Thank you to:
Heidi (For helping find Shelley and Erin)
Shelley and Erin for taking a very cute and sweet pasture ornament.
The Hytyme's for use of their trailer
Deb, Dave, Bre and mom for coming on the horse field trip and documenting it.
And CBER for saving this wonderful horse...he deserves it!!!!

Here is an Update I just got from Shelley and Erin:
Hi Ashley: Thanks again for taking the time and making the effort to bring Hawkeye here. Just wanted you to know they are both SO HAPPY. They have been absolutely inseparable all day, and both of them have been squealing at each other, rubbing, sniffing, nibbling, and doing everything the other one does -- if one of them drinks water, then the other one does. If one of them eats apples, so does the other. If one of them eats hay, so does the other. They are almost constantly touching now -- leaning against each other, swishing their tails against the other, sliding their necks up and down the other's. At one point, Hawkeye was biting Tinkerbelle on the neck and she seemed to be absolutely loving it. We gave them oats tonight in separate bowls and they ate side by side, munching happily. Hawkeye has explored every square inch of the place over and over, with Tinkerbelle in constant tandem. He hasn't rolled again, so we are thrilled that he did it "for you" and let you know he was happy where he was. He has kicked a few times when Tink gets her nose too far up his butt, but it's halfhearted, and he only made contact once, but didn't hurt her. I think it will take a few days for them to realize this is a permanent arrangement rather than a play date, but so far, so great!
Thanks again -- Shelley and Erin

He is definitely one of the lucky ones! Congrats.

Here is Shelley's latest update on Hawkeye and Tinkerbelle's LOVE affair:
Hi Ashley: The love affair is coming along splendidly -- the squealing has died down from dozens of times a day to about once or twice a day. They are absolutely inseparable, and take turns following each other all over the place. Yesterday Hawkeye broke into a full gallop all over the pasture 3 times, FAST, with Tinkerbelle at first just watching him, then following him at more of a trot. He then headed into the back forty -- it was almost like him doing some sort of mating dance and then inviting her to join him in the bedroom! Which she did. The only time I think they've split up all week is when it rained -- he goes in the barn, she stands just outside the barn, in the rain, because she loves it. All is well! Shelley

Here is an update on Hawkeye from his new home the other day:
Trevor (our farrier) came out this week and took care of both Tinkerbelle and Hawkeye. They are still getting along great -- Hawkeye regularly wanders all over the entire back 40 and seems quite happy. He is quite a big eater -- he has really trimmed a lot of our blackberry bushes, eaten just about all the apples that fall on the ground from our orchard, and has "mown" the high grass in the back in addition to his regular hay and grain feedings. If Erin isn't out there by 8:15 in the morning he is banging his hooves on the fence, and he is standing there again at 5 every afternoon waiting for his dinner. Trevor pronounced both of them in good shape for their age. So all is well -- just wanted you to know!
A BIG thank you to Shelley and Erin for keeping my boy safe, happy and WELL FED!!! The fastest way to Hawkeye's heart has always been through his stomach!!!
