Barb, who is adopting Roper and the gang, told me that she'll be a backup home for Feather. I gave her Hillary's email address so that they can make it official.

Feather has to go through QT and Barb's horses are leaving on Friday. She sent me a copy of an email that she just sent to you. She's offered to be a backup to Feather and Jeremy. The two of them would be shipped after QT. Check it out and then post to make the backup home official! :-) Debbie

Nancy,
I'm new here and I've been trying also to get help for this mare.
I don't understand the extra fees. (The Equinenow ad said $525) Do the extra fees apply if someone can pick her up and transport?
Just trying to get straight on all the fees and facts.
Thanks for whatever help you can give.

Hi VKS,
I've passed your emails onto Hillarie Singer, as she is Feather's Placement Specialist. I was responsible for placing some ads for her and I normally send all inquires to Hillarie. I am a ps for some other horses and I do not have that much info on Feather in particular.
Thanks so much, Kirsten

VKS -- it isn't that there are "extra" fees, it's that that there is a 300.00 quarantine fee for QT/board, for one month, for all the lot horses.
With horses mingling and being exposed to other strange horses at auction and at the feedlots, there is serious potential for equine diseases. CBER insists upon a month of QT to avoid spreading feedlot diseases amongst other horses -- both the horses a person already owns and any other horses being transported with the adopted lot horse to the new adopter's home.
If you live within transport distance, you can haul the new horse yourself after QT. But QT is mandatory for CBER lot horses. It's both necessary, precautionary and responsible horsemanship on CBER's part.
Em
MTA -- there's also a 30.00 hauling fee, for getting horses off the lot and into QT. The way I see it, one can't expect a non-profit rescue to do things for free -- when they are also supporting the bailed and pulled lot horses that had their adoptions fall through. Anything left over from any fees pays for meds and food for those horses CBER is feeding/sponsoring on their own dime.

Shouldn't it be up to the buyer as to where the horse QT's? Is this a Washington or local law? The ad on equinenow.com does not show these extra fees.
This is disconcerting.
This seems to make it much harder to place the horses, and therefore save them.

You wrote: "This seems to make it much harder to place the horses, and therefore save them. " Most of us have no problem letting the "rescue pros" delegate the QT set-up which they decide is best for the horses and their rescue. I adopted CBER Cloud in October 2007 and totally agree with CBER's protocol for QT -- even moreso, I am very grateful they are so careful, care about all horses their lot horses could come in contact with, and that they are the ones, and willing, I might add, to be dealing with any of the diseases or sicknesses a lot horse might contract. I find it a huge service, and admire their desire to not put other horses or other transporting horses at risk. The board they charge isn't much different than regular board in general. And as for transport off the lot -- a horse I boarded for a year who was boarded not even 10 minutes from my home cost 50.00 to transport. I think it's caring and wise on CBER's part to be "hands on" with QT, for the sake of the horses. Not all people are trustworthy or as careful. If CBER does the QT themselves, they can be sure it's done, and done properly. All rescues have different operating protocols -- most adopters respect and accept a rescue's way of doing things. Straight up, the best advice I could give is that if a person doesn't support a certain rescue's operating protocol, they need to adopt from/support a different rescue. I have a tb mare (Cber Destiny) that was just like this on the lot. After realizing she was home and taking her off alfalfa she is an absolute dream and my soulmate. These girls are truly worth their weight in gold. A few hundred dollars in exchange for a lifetime of friendship very good deal I think

So what if anything is going on for this mare? Do we need to raise funds for her? She is one of the cheaper horses so it seems like she might be one of the easiest to save if we do need to raise some funds.
