Hi RO folks,
Here is the writeup I emailed out about CBER "Pay Day." He is in foster care with me here in Santa Rosa, CA (1.5 hours north of San Francisco) and is looking for his forever home.
Pay Day will remain in board/training here with me until placement. He is a wonderful horse ---- a true feedlot gem!
**************************************************
I have a wonderful gelding in foster care with me here in Santa Rosa, and he is available for adoption. He name is "Pay Day," he is a 21-year old rideable Thoroughbred gelding, a petite 15.1 hands, an absolute gentleman.
Pay Day was at a feedlot in Yakima, WA in August and was headed for slaughter. He was rescued through Columbia Basin Equine Rescue. Pay Day's rescue has been financially supported by two local women. I have donated board, training and placement services for Pay Day. This is clearly a former show horse. He is well schooled, sound, and fun to ride. He has beautiful gaits with a floating, daisy-cutter trot. He has only been with me 2 weeks, and I have already entered him in a dressage show on 10/21 ---- that's just how nice he is.
Pay Day travels sound, has outstanding feet, clean knee and hock joints, clean legs, and has a lot of riding miles left in him. He is kind and easy to handle, clips, ties, bathes, loads eagerly into any trailer, hauls like a dream, unloads calmly. Calm in strange places, ties for long periods to the trailer (took him to a show last weekend and he was amazing). Happy in the barn or outside. Happy alone or with other horses. Not herd bound, very sensible, just a wonderful all-around kind fellow. This is a VERY nice older horse.
Pay Day just had his dental work done (dentist said "this horse has clearly had a lifetime of good dental care") and a chiropractic evaluation ---- no adjustments were needed.
This guy would be perfect for the adult amateur who wants to do some lower level riding and showing, and who wants a buddy to love. He would be wonderful for a Pony Clubber from (confident) D-1 to D-3. My guess is Pay Day's a former hunter/jumper or eventer. He needs a rider who's a solid advanced beginner, but would be fun for a more advanced rider (I really enjoy riding him). Pay Day is very solid to ride, no buck or funny stuff. He is light and forward and likes to work.
I have not jumped Pay Day yet nor taken him on a trail ride. I am almost certain he will do well with both. This will happen with time-----our assessment period has only just begun. He is very out of shape and I am slowly bringing him back. He will need an adoptor who can continue this process with patience and care.
Please spread the word about this fine horse. He will remain with me here at Watermark Farm until the right LIFETIME adoptor is found. Pay Day is currently in 1/2 training (light riding 3 days/week) until he gets more fit. He will be competing on 10/21 at the Hoofbeats Park Schooling Dressage Show in Healdsburg, at Intro Test A (walk/trot test).
Come meet Pay Day and fall in love!!! His adoption fee is $1,200, which goes to offset the cost of feedlot bail, quarantine, vet, transport, dental, chiropractor, etc. Potential adoptors need to have horse experience, references, and demonstrate the financial and physical ability to care for Pay Day for the remainder of his life. A site check may be performed.
This is one special rescue horse ---- please pass the word so that I can find him a wonderful home! Pay Day is located at my farm in Santa Rosa, CA. I would just love to see him go to someone I know.
Thanks,
Katie Moore & Pay Day
