Is this the correct place to post this?
Emily told me today that she has decided to let her 2 rescue colts go to a good home or to a very responsible rescue person who will care for both colts and rehome them eventually to a forever home. One, if you remember, has had Strangles...the vet said that the colt is slowly getting better. Emily chose this colt because he was extremely frightened.
The other colt is splay footed in the front and is parrot mouthed. Emily chose him because she felt that no one would save him because of how he looks and the expense and care that would be required in the future. Emily says that now, since he has been eating right, his front legs have straightened up a bit. She has had him (and the other colt) for about 3 months.
Emily had intended to keep both colts, but, now is finding her financial situation caused by the colt coming down with Strangles too overwhelming.
If you are interested in these 2 colts (they should go together as they were rescued together and have been great comfort to one another in the last few months), please email me for photos which I have.
NOTE: Emily said that whoever wants these 2 colts has to keep in mind that both colts must undergo three Strangles cultures before they leave her place. Or (and this is from me), maybe someone who is very knowledgeable about Strangles and is responsible enough, can take both colts and take over the 3 Strangles cultures 2 weeks apart on each colt....

Whoever adopts these two colts should speak to their vet about E-Se shots. (Vit E and Selenium) We have had great success using E-Se to straighten crooked legged reservation weanlings as well as a two year old reservation mare. We have used Bo-Se (same thing but for cows) on calves with knees fused bent, ie. with absolutely zero range of motion). Results start showing after two weeks. The horses and calves legs are now PERFECTLY straight. ( After 3 months on these shots). I believe Oregon soil is like Washington soil, totally Selenium deficient. Your vet will know. Of course nutritious feed, loose minerals with Se and a vitamin supplement will all help to straighten those legs. Some areas of the USA have toxic levels of Se in the soil, so make sure to ask your vet before using a Selenium supplement, such as E-Se.

Just spoke with Emily this evening and she has now decided to keep the colts. The one with strangles is doing much better. Emily now has another job and also is making some extra $$ delivering hay for those who have no way to get the hay they buy. So, I think that the help we all gave her caused her to feel supported both financially and emotionally and so she was able to make it 'over the hump'....
Thank you all so much for all the help you gave her,
Aimee
