I just received word that the Lewiston Auction is happening tomorrow and that there will be quite a few Appys up for auction that were confiscated from a lady up by Harvard. Apparently there are mares in foal which have very good bloodlines, as well as young gelding, fillies. Unsure if any stallions will be there. The prices will be in the $50 range. Papers will probably not be available. These horses are unhandled to slightly handled is my understanding. If any of you are available and interested hopefully you can get to the auction.

I'm not sure of the ladies name. I just got a call last night to help put the word out. Marcia said yes, she believed this was the lady. People were in a rush to get them pulled from the lady so the State of Idaho pulled them, now they don't know what to do with them. People who were complaining to state to pull them now say they can't come and help rescue them cause their snowed in- so I guess off to auction they go.

If these are Fran's horses, they are all foundation appys. Most had papers, most could be registered... These are decent horses. Not great, but very decent. Worth far more then $50... A few months ago there was a group of people who tried to help these horses. 57 Appys in all... Plans were made, money was gathered, then everything fell apart. It greatly saddens me to hear about this auction and know that those who tried to help these horses almost certainly will not be able to be there.

I have room for a couple, but am unsure about transportation especially given the short notice. There is a hauler going to Yakima tomorrow... if one or two of these appys could get to Yakima today or before the hauler tomorrow, then I could take them.

We have two kill buyer in this area, One is Jack Ryan from Pullman Wash. and the other is Frank Dillon, Lewiston, Ida. If anyone is good at talking to kill buyers you might gave it a try, I'm not.I understand that they both ship to Canada. I just which that Ida. had done differently, and had there ducks in a row before they pulled them.

Called the sales yard in Lewiston. We are too late. There were 12 appys. Didn't ask for details. They're already gone.

This really bothers me. They swore those horses would not be going through a sale. That was on Nov 30.

If anyone is interested in reaching the killbuyers and see if their the ones that bought these appys here you go: Jack Ryan-Pullman-509-334-1029 Frank Dillon-Lewiston 208-743-8366 Both sell to the public- so should talk to someone about whether they purchased any or not.

What bothers me more is that I contacted Fran directly and offered to take 2 short term to rehome. She turned me down flat. Why didn't the authorities make it known that they needs homes for seized horses? I saw nothing posted anywhere.

My understanding is she has been to court twice and turned them over voluntarily to avoid prosecution. The state has taken two loads out apparently. Why the state didn't contact someone is beyond me.

Here's some more info: a lady in Deer park WA who was trying to get some of these horses a couple months ago- her email is carriegl@bitlink.com and phone is 509-999-1799. Or try calling the Latah county sheriffs office. I believe the horses are being boarded currently at the Lewiston fairgrounds. Our source is a lady out of Whitman county who has been trying to staying nuetral

mustangAppy, as you know the lady was hard to deal with. As for the Latah county making it known, the county has know direct department that handles this type of seizer, plus the county doesn't have the money to board feed large group of horses. My opinion is the sheriff dept didn't care, they just went out under a judges order and pick them up, not careing that they would maybe go to slaughter.
maybe, try going out on line and checking the legal section of the Lewiston paper, see if anything is mentioned.
One other thing, the appy people in Spokane were the ones that bug the sheriff dept to do some thing , so they knew what was going to happen, but they droped the ball.

My sister was at the auction that day for the quarter horse dispersal sale. I don't know how many, but I think most of the appies went to the kill buyer. There was a preganant mare my sister fell in love with that went for $30. She called Jack Ryan the next day and he didn't have that mare. I got the impression he didn't have any of them, but I'm not sure. They were all very starved.

I'm stunned -- if I'm (very, very sadly) understanding this correctly, horses are "saved"/pulled from bad circumstances, like AC would do, only to then end up at AUCTION and SLAUGHTER?
How can that be?

I got some more info - they went to a guy out of Hermiston. It sounded like he was going to feed them up and send them through a sale there. So they may still have a chance...
