OK, well nuther good night... the wound is nice a clean, forgot my camera, but edges are pink, just a little granulation in the center... so, on to Derma Gel and Equine Elite, and wrap. picked all of his feet, and he did great, so he'll need a trim asap, as he is ready, some chipping and exfoliating frogs, etc... but trotted up the hill without a limp to get food... that is good.... more later!

Another update on Diablo, we did a dressing change in the light yesterday, and let him smoof around the driveway area... he got to 'meet' some of the residents... hehe... and our dogs got to meet him and get a good sniff.. the funniest was when he was getting a GOOD long smoof of my golden retriever... she was totally oblivious... until... she looked around to see 'who's there?' LOL!! saw his BIG face... and his NOSE>... she freaked!!!!!! tucked her tail and ran!!! anywho, here is the pics from yesterday... I will start getting the angles the same, so we can compare over time... but I'm still trying to figure out which angle shows the swelling under the skin... I'm hoping it isn't calcification, or tumor under there... but the medial angle seems to show it 'splitting' or stretching the skin... what do you guys think??? here they are... and a sweet mug shot.

Do you have any reports from the vet who treated him in QT?

No, not yet, but I have requested them. He just removed the proudflesh tho, didn't biopsy or anything. they felt it was a scar with proudflesh.... from the report.. I have pics from the surgery date, and that swelling was there then too... so might just be deep scarring I guess... .

I got a free internet consult from Dr Y regarding Vermont/Diablo's leg. He is sure we are dealing with 99.99% scar/granulation tissue. Yipee! he also said keep doing our stuff and we are set for a good cosmetic outcome too! Well, that is icing on the cake (and I think he knows we believe that!) Tonight, took down the dressing again, and it is about the size of a quarter now, so, about hallf the size as before. I'll get pics in the light tomorrow. He said that the swelling is internal fibrosis from the granulation, but it will get smaller, and that the swelling is from the healing chemicals in his ankle. also, will resolve. :-) we are happy, and my daughter can't WAIT to get on him! so, saddle up tomorrow! first time! wish us luck!

Ooh boy I love updating... Diablo went and had an ultrasound last week at Loomis Basin Equine, he was a good boy, and they saw some fluid around his tendon sheath, but his deep and superficial digital flexors are fine, there is a very thick scar over them tho, and the scar touches the superficial... so may be adheared. the vet thought his limp was coming partly from his front end tho... that was a new thought... and lastly, he said we could do what we are doing, dressings, and keep him in a paddock, with light riding once or twice a week, but that the wound would likely take a long time to heal, or put him on stall rest and heal more quickly... and that some wounds in this area never heal!!! well, we were given the challenge. so, naturally, stall rest wasn't our choice, as the lameness would get worse with standing still... especially if it is adhesions... so, we just kept up what we are doing. which is basically leavining it alone!!! LOL!!! wraps, spritz of equine elite... and nothing else! no touchie. so, let's chronical his progress.... the lot pics... a few days after arrival... after our only proudflesh treatment... a few days later showing how nicely that worked... continueing to evolve... they always have a few 'slow times'... all shaved and naked at Loomis for the US and drum roll please... tonight! my focus was fuzzy, and it is difficult to see.... but... you guessed it, it's closed over! YIPEE!!!!! mta: we had one other piece of news at the vet clinic.. the tech looked at his teeth, and mr diablo is not a 9-10 ish horse, he is a nice 20 year old gentleman! looks great for his age! and soon, he'll be a sound, older gentleman we hope!

Lucky lucky boy to have landed in your lap. He is actually quite well put together - beautiful boy. To think a minor injury just made him worthless like that. Hoo boy. Hope things are changing....

You guys don't know how in love my daughter is! we put a tape on him yesterday too, and he is a good 16.2 hh, and 1400 lb! as far as I see, he has a bit of upright hooves and pasterns, but otherwise is well put together... my daughte now wants to learn halter to see if she can show him!! LOL!!! Right now she doesn't even care if she can ride him! and, she was ho hum about his age being more like 20 than 10... :-) he has a great 13 year old fan club!!! and he luvs her too guess it's about time for a massage and chiro to see where his pain really 'is'... and what we can 'do'... ;-) oh, and being 20, prolly needs dental.. did I say I got THREE Walnut Sized BEANS outta him while he was sedated? hard as ROCKS! OUCH!!! owners who don't treat wounds, don't clean sheaths... doubtfully do dental...

Sam, I think 50% of the healing has been the "vibes" between Jeni (my niece, Beth's daughter) and Diablo. Those two really have a bond....
But the little extra care we did certainly got it ready to go and now he just needs some physical therapy / riding time!

Doing updates today... :-) Diablo is doing great... he is officially a gymkhana horse now, but isn't a great one, he is more 'hunter style' slow and steady... but hey, he is a fun ride!!! LOL! he pulled a hamstring over winter but is all better now, and he's off to a show this weekend! :-) My daughter will be using him for trailriding this year, he was awesome on his 'trial run'... look for many more pics of his cute sweet face!
