11 - 13 year old, 16.1+h, chestnut gelding. This big stout gelding has a very gentle eye and was nice to handle on the ground. Picked up his front feet well but was tentative about his hind feet. I am sure that he is sensitive from his cut. We are told that the growth on his right hind is proud flesh but a vet exam to be sure is suggested. His front feet are very short and sometimes he took some short steps but his feet might be the cause of that. Please contact Deb Logstrom for more information. he is a very good looking boy, I like that he's so stout. Is there any interest in him? I wish there was something we can do for that cut!

Yikes, poor guy. There are a lot of good treatments out there for proud flesh. Hopefully he gets adopted soon and can get the help he needs.

This is a very nice looking horse, but I bet he is doomed whth the truck coming. He needs medical attention for his foot, which looks bad, AND they want 800 dollars for him. You think his price would be lower. So sad.

I've only seen the pic. But this is a very suspicious looking 'lump'- I would have it bi-opsied- unless a vet has said it is definitely proud flesh... it may well be something else. If it is a tumor it may not be all that painful but certainly would interfere with movement, given it's size. The price of the horse is based on the weight of the horse- they're bought/sold by the pound unless they were purchased as a saddle horse, this horse obviously was not. Horses are discounted for things, ie very poor condition, bone to meat ratio etc but not an old wound or whatever this is... does that help?

I agree that this bump looks more like a tumor than proud flesh. If it is cancerous then he would probably be regected at the slaughter house. As far as his price, I have seen many horses that are larger and fleshier go for less money. The price is based on many things, if they only went by the weight it sure would be simpler.

I had a rescue horse that had a tumor just like this one... same spot, just not quite as large. I had my vet remove it at our facility and biopsy it (it was a benign growth and somewhat common according to the vet). He said it may grow back if he didn't get all the stem, but it never did. Believe it or not, that tumor removal was one of the most inexpensive vet bills and horse recoveries I have ever encountered. This may not be nearly as bad as it looks.

Hello everyone! It has been a long time....
Now, down to business......I am with everone else on here who thinks this looks like a tumor instead of proud flesh....remember Streak and her sarcoid? This looks strikingly similiar to that.....
When we had her sarcoid removed the cost was around $300.00 and there is no sign of regrowth.....
This is an awesome horse...are there any further updates?

He has an approved adopter who is paying for his vet and farrier bills. The surgery will be done when he is done with QT, as he will stay overnight at the vets and the vet wanted him out of QT before he kept him in the barn. Previous adopter who is the best is taking care of these things and he already has met them and likes them!

Well, Mr Diablo is living in the foothills of Mt Diablo now, and is such a good boy so far! He travelled well, and is settling in very nicely. He has good ground manners, and is really good with my daughter leading him. Did I say yet that he was HUGE??? He had his proudflesh removed a few weeks ago, and is now in the healing phase (again of course, as his original injury was some time prior to the lot!!!) So, nothing is expected to go fast... this is an 'old, chronic wound, in the worst possible place... ' on the hind rear medial fetlock. But, we will do our best. Diablo has shown in QT that he can be sore and swat with that foot, and that he hates vets.... so we are being very careful and spoiling him for being 'good' and letting us work on him. Sam did the hard work and established trust... now we need to transfer that to us... Here are his pics the night he arrived... tired. but hungry... And here is tonight's wound pic.. not for the squeemish... the crust has come off of the proudflesh, and it is moist but still thick. I put our 'cocktail' on it... Meat Tenderizer and hydrocortisone cream... with a wrap tonight. the wound will then dry over with a black 'scab' again, actually a layer of proudflesh that has been 'burned back'. We will expect that to come off in a few days, reveiling a smaller lump... and perhaps we will need to apply one more time.... after that is done, we go to gentle treatments and wraps, Equine Elite spray, and Derma Gel covered with Telfa then a wrap.

Poor guy. What do you think, could this an old rope burn? He is really handsome, Beth. Can't really blame him for not trusting....and hating vets. Poor guy has been ouchy for a long, long, long time.
Aunties Beth & Peg will make it all better. Stock up on apples & carrots, and spoil the heck out of him. He will come 'round with your great care.

He wants to be good, but poor thing... the only time we have to do bandage changes is after dark. Add to that last night's gale force winds and no wonder he gets a bit freaked out! But after getting settled last night, he just picked up his foot for Beth to wrap.
(and did we mention he's BIG???) This boy is all leg!

Never thought I'd have to learn to apply a polo to a hind leg while it was lifted as high as it could bend!!! LOL!!! but, it IS possible. :-) Have we MENTIONED that he is HUGE? His spine towers over the top of my head. and he's a QH!!!??

You keep saying huge. I'm chuckling. . .had one almost 17 hands in my youth. . .and I struggled and struggled to jump on that one bareback. I'd grab hold of his poor mane, get a running start from his head area and throw that leg up and almost over his back and kick my way upwards. He just stood there and waited for me to get upright. Good guy! Nowdays, I think a mounting block sounds like a much better idea!!!!! Can't wait for more updates!

Oh, there is NO DOUBT a mounting block is in his future!!! LOL!!! I use one to get on Marley!!! and since I've already said HUGE.... I'll put it this way, he DWARFS Marley.... and rivals TAFFY!!!
