4 - 6 yr old, 15h, chestnut mare. THis mare is in poor shape and might not ride the way she did today when she has the proper weight. We did not do much because she is skinny but we wanted to see if she had ever been ridden and from the looks of it she is green broke. She has a kind eye, was nice on the ground but does not know much riding wise. Sam, can you plead with FLO to give Daphne another week?! I think we can do something for her with a little more time.

We need a week for ads to get up and work.....getting something started for her in 2 days is just unfair.....but then nothing about any of this is fair for these innocent horses.
Aleta
I pray she is still there tomorrow and I will get her photo up on the ad sites.

In memory of Domingo, let's get Daphne off the lot before the next truck comes!
Gosh, it makes me sick, in our complacent way we continue to think "Whew, the horses are safe for a few more days." And then we find out once again that ANYONE on the lot when the truck is there, IS AT RISK! So we should never let our guard down, even for a moment, because in a blink of an eye, its over...

Cyberecat, I'm as heartbroken as everyone else about Domingo, and very worried about Daphne and Dixie, but I really don't think we were complacent at all, in the last 3 ships especially. Aleta, Kirsten, and all the PS's and volunteers have worked extremely hard to place ads, talk with people, get donations, whatever it takes to get these horses adopted. I have been totally amazed with the amount of effort put forward to save these horses. And the last 5 only had a couple days! It's an impossible job, but CBER has come thru for the vast majority of horses listed. I think everyone that has worked so hard and donated so much money in hard times really deserves a pat on the back. But the down side is we can't expect to save them all, especially when there are so many each week, with so little time to network to find homes. Resources were just tapped out before the last three could be pulled. The real crime is the FLO shipping the listed horses before given a decent amount of time to find them homes.

Hi rescueall...your points are well taken, and heaven knows we try, but what I am referring to is the relief and focus elsewhere when I think the horses will be left alone for a few more days. I've been online every day for close to three years, and I KEEP THINKING that the Meat Man will play fair...not shipping the horses that have been online for two days....not shipping the injured...not shipping the babies. I am frustrated...but maybe it is only my problem.
Leanne
Slightly edited to add a couple of missing words.

I agree with both of you, Faye and Leanne in what you just said. Yes there is a core of people that work really hard to get help for these horses, but there could be more among all the people that read these threads, to offer more help. And sometimes we wait too long during the week to come to the board and see what we can do.
I think donations should be done sooner, because money can always be moved to another horse if needed. Each one of us cannot think that someone else will come through for the horses, we have to assume that we all have a stake in what happens to them, so each one of us has to think seriously and quickly about what they can do. I for one, don't have much money to donate, so I do the ads and they can be very successful.
More people could be doing ads. More people could be scouting the internet for more places to post ads or list CBER as a horse rescue organization. It is all about networking and the internet is unlimited....someone could start a myspace just on horses or invite more people to join the board here.
We cannot expect the same people to keep taking horses over and over because there is a limit... but just think about all the people out there that could help us if they knew about horse rescue and CBER and the urgency involved. There is much to do and each and everyone is important to the cause. We are in a war here to protect our horses and we can win, not alone but as growing herd of people against slaughter and we can trample over the killbuyers and all those that deal and profit in torture and death.

Whats the status on the approval of an adopter that is interested in this horse? I hate it when it comes down to the wire.

I know it's frustrating to wait on the approval, but CBER has to contact the references/vet/etc. to verify the applicant is ligit and truthful, and can really take care of a horse. It's a totally thankless job to be an approver of applicants!

Guys, I don't have anything application-wise for Daphne. A lovely person was very interested and her application is in process, but she will not be adopting Daphne. She has decided this is not the right time for her to get another horse.
I'm hoping Daphne's PS has something going on for her, I'll send an email and update when I receive a response.

Unfortunately it is true about the possible adopter not quite ready......so we need to pull together and see what else we can do for this gentle mare.
will do ads tonight immediately. We have more horses being listed, but don't forget Daphne!!!
