Aren't they gorgeous? They are in much better shape than I thought they would be!
Thanks so much to Chatty for her hard work in coordinating our participation in re-homing some of these captured horses.
And Thanks to stormlady for taking a trip out to the reservation to take photos of these sweeties...

The last pic, the horse facing you, looks to be "big" in the middle. Could this be a pregnant mare? Nice looking group.

possibly, but the caption that stormlady had on there was Bay Stud...
She did say that some of them seemed to have hay or worm bellies. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised by them. In my imagination they were much worse looking.

tfrancis, it is possible that that is a mare. It was hard to see whether mare or stallion; they don't like to stand still for one to look at from the side or rear! There are three mares in there: the black one, the bay with chrome, and a young bay filly/mare I couldn't positively identify.
Note that the palomino and a bay gelding next to him are saddle horses that are used by the chaser(s?) and are not for sale. I tried to keep them out of the photos as much as I could.

By the way, although the town and county are spelled "Yakima," the nation and people are "Yakama" with three As.

Hey all I was at BLM here in Ridgecrest today and was talking to some of the wranglers. They said why doesn't the Yakamas contact BLM and ask for help.
Seems the BLM here works with some of the reservations here and helps them manage the herds on some of the reservations.
Ridgecrest gelds or tried to geld every colt (unless the are too young) and treat the off HMA horses the same as the on HMA ones. LOl we asked where some of the horses are from and some of them were listed as Off such and such HMA..
So can we or suggest that they contact BLM and see if they could help at all? Even put us/them in touch with sanctuaries and such.

I did suggest that. The tribe is in communication with the BLM, but they are essentially competing for buyers and so cooperation is limited. The BLM has trouble selling their horses, too, as evidenced by the recent law changes allowing them to sell at auction when a horse has been passed over three times.
However, it does seem like there may be some things they could do together. Like using the BLM's application and information. If you have any more specific ideas, let me or Chatty know as the wildlife manager is open to them. Also web site ideas and support.

They have the same build as Star (Bob's Yakama Nation Buckskin, who as past), stout to carry a old brave like Bob..HA HA.. Now when old men talk about thier youth and the horses in the canyon, you can say "Oh, I can picture that"

Beautiful faces on these horses!! I do believe there is some draft blood in several of these guys. There was word awhile back about setting drafts free to bulk up the herd. Lovely pictures. Thank you Chatty!!!!!!!!!! I also have to agree, about the very large bay horse, looks preggo to me! ....and toed-in and wide-base Something corrective shoeing will help.
