From NorCal Equine Rescue 2/28, click here to view the pictures, and to donate: www.feedlothorses.com/current_rescue"There are 9 horses (2 studs and 7 broodmares) that a breeder is planning on taking to slaughter March 15th! He has decided to stop breeding horses and stick with cattle. Since he only lives 1 1/2 hours from the new horse slaughterhouse, Natural Valley Farms Inc. in Canada, it will be very convenient for him to make the short trip over the border into Canada and get top dollar for his horses. We can save these horses and transfer them to other rescues that can adopt them into loving homes, but We Can't Do This Without You! We are still working on placement so we don't know what the transporting will be yet. We will add the transporting funds needed as soon as we know. All of the mares are in foal, so really we are saving 16 horses!" 540 - Bay QH stud $900 SAFE!541 - Sorrel QH mare $675 SAFE!542 - Bay breeding stock mare with star snip $675 SAFE!543 - Buckskin & white paint mare $675 SAFE!544 - Bay & white overo mare $675 SAFE!545 - Black & white paint stud $700 SAFE!546 - Cremello breeding stock paint mare $675 SAFE!547 - Buckskin QH mare $675 SAFE!548 - Black breeding stock mare with blaze $675 SAFE!

Thank you Nanci for posting this....This is also posted on ABR.
NorCal does a really good job getting these horses into a network of rescues after the money is raised for them. It has been very successful. It is always the money up front that is urgent to raise to save them and then the transport fee from the lot......so every dollar really helps this effort.
Anyone that can spare a few dollars, $5, $10, $25 it all adds up and remember you are saving 2 for the price of one with these very pregnant mares.
Couldn't be a better place to send your couple dollars to!

How do you decide which one is next in line to save?

Oh my, poor babies.
okay, so I thought it was illegal to ship pregnant mares and studs to slaughter, was that just for US slaugher houses?

How do you decide which one is next in line to save? It looks like they were listed in a different order on the ABR board and we're following that list. As long as I've been involved with NorCal's rescues, I've haven't seen any ship.

Don't know anything more than what's written on the NER web site, which I interpret to mean that these particular horses are NOT from the usual Nevada feedlot that NER works out of, but someplace else at or near the Canadian border in the possession of a breeder.
Not sure how or why NER got involved with this group of horses.
