So I did not have a problem last summer with flies and gnats, but the new barn I have my horse at has a ton. What is the best fly repellent out there?

I can't think of the name but I like the waterproof fly spray in the organey bottle. I use the Marigold stuff on theirs faces though because the other stuff makes their eyes water if you put it on their cheeks.

Equi Spot, I swear by it!! I don't put it on their legs though, but on their bellies! It works great!!

Can you put a couple of drops of Equi Spot near the head too? The head and belly seem to be the most in need of protection here. How long does it last for once applied and does it really keep them off? I have tried Bronco and another type of repellent (wipes in a black box with sheen in the name) and was upset to see flies on her the same day I put these on

Absorbine Flys-X - it is actually one of the cheaper ones and works pretty good. It is water based, which for sensitive horses is a bonus. I had a problem with the Equispot - caused the hair to fall out where applied.
Also - I ended up buying a 10% pyrethereine liquid and I add about 1/4 cup to whatever flyspray i use. Seems to work a little better.
I also do not apply this to the faces around the eyes and whatnot. For the face I have found that using a Bounce fabric softner and rubbing around works pretty darn well!!!

I use absorbine ultrashield. It works pretty well. Also, I put up those ugly flybags.

Stinky fly bags work great!! Fly predators are awesome too, several barns in my area use them and it makes a huge difference, also Solitude!! I put fly masks on and use the Equi spot, have not had a problem yet! I put it on the poll area, down the back, and belly....Works wonderful!

We've had good success with Endure spray. A little perfumey on the fragrance, but at least it doesn't stink!

Another vote for equi-spot, it keeps off the ticks too!
