I was contacted by my friend Judy who's fiance was asked by one of his friends if they know where to get a good dressage horse suitable for their 13 year old daughter. Apparently the father was told that he would not find one under $11,000. and that is way out of their reach quite a statement, wonder how they came up with that number. Please pm me with any suggestions of a horse suitable for this girl. I am waiting to hear directly from her father exactly what they are looking for but I am sure we can help them out... and stay under 11,000 please include pics and contact info thanks

What level of training does the horse need to have??? I know of a VERY nice oldenburg filly - she is ready to be started under saddle - but is very quiet and calm and will progress very quickly. I was planning to purchase her myself, but we decided to hold off since Malibu may need stifle surgery. She is very nice and I figure can be purchased for a fraction of her actual worth! she is registered, branded and in the mare book!
Let me know what you are looking for! I have been running raged doing consults but come across outstanding horses EVERY day that are for sale!
Take care, Sara

Depending on what level of training they are looking for, there are a lot of well trained dressage horses to be found for under 10K on BAEN! However, it should be noted that a horse trained to at least 2nd level with no soundness issues will be quite pricey, especially in the Bay Area. It doesn't sound as if this family has a lot of experience in the horse world, so I would think they are best suited getting a "been there done that horse". Plenty of horses trained in Dressage here, you just have to weed through the ads and eliminate the ones over 10K. results.bayequest.info/b001/showads.php?maintype=key&mth=0&subtype=1&sdate=dressage&page=1

I never got an answer today but will call again to get details and will pass on as soon as I know, would be nice if they could place one of the older experienced horses vs the younger pricey ones.....

Timber is on the feedlot right now, at risk to ship Saturday. CBER listed. "18 yr old, 16h bay TB gelding. We were told that this gelding was used as a Dressage horse. he had a GREAT canter, it was really well balanced and rythmic. He is big horse that has a nice way of going. He was a bit aggressive towards the other horses. $650 Email Kirsten for more information"

Check the USDF website and get the link for the CA region dressage website, usually there are horses for sale there. Also check the Region 6 (WA, ID, OR) website (google usdf region 6) there are lots of nice horses there. For a child of this age, it really is nice to get her something that she can learn from so she can go on to train a less experienced horse. It is really hard to try to learn the correct seat as well as the correct timing of the aids on something that is not a schoolmaster. I speak from experience!! you might also check www.warmbloods-for-sale.com

JD Acres has some really nice rescues, usually ex-performance horses. Tempi (on lower right on page) is gorgeous and a dressage schoolmaster: www.jdacres.org/current_horses.htmlwww.jdacres.org/images/tempitrot.jpg"Tempi (Tu Tu Tootsie) is a registered TB mare. She is 16.2 and 19 years old. Her foal date is 4/21/1989. Tempi is a beautiful, big boned mare with gorgeous movement. Tempi has a very old hamstring injury she sustained as a 2 year old that prevents her jumping, and makes her walk slightly uneven. A massage every three months or so keeps her sound and comfortable. Tempi is also blind in one eye, but she is very well adjusted and not at all spooky. Tempi is a dressage schoolmaster and has been extensively trained and shown. She is a kind, sweet and very loving mare. She does best in pasture and does wear front shoes. Tempi is great for shorter trail rides as well. We will ride her tomorrow and update further. Update~ Tempi is a gorgeous mover and a very nice mare. She is easy to ride and very well trained. She has a canter to die for! Walk to canter transitions, flying changes, easy to get on the bit and very calm. Tempi is not at all hot or forward, but she is easy to ride and picks up her transitions very nicely. Tempi looks and acts very much like a warmblood. Tempi would be ideal for someone looking for a very safe horse to learn dressage, and take on the occasional trail ride. " mta: their horses usually go for under $1000 and they are near Sacramento

beckybee,
Thanks for reminding me about jdacres. I really like Jessica and try to support her any way I can!
I actually placed a TB from Bay Meadows with Jessica and she has been thriving in her care.

If this girl is still looking have her contact me, have a super and well bred young reg. QH mare that is gorgeous and will make a fantastic western and reining type horse. Has had a fantastic start with Natural Horsemanship methods, loves people and will make a great trail horse too, handles obstacles, poles etc really well. 6 year old and reasonably priced to good and suitable home. I really try and match up the right horse to the right person and will not let her go to an inappropriate place, so will ask for some references, etc! You can PM me for contact info.
