Katie (watermarkfarm) was able to read Cayenne's tattoo, so we asked the Jockey Club to run an ID on him and voila! .... Cayenne is none other than .... MAC ATTACK !
Yep, that's right, his JC name is Mac Attack.
He was bred in Oklahoma, 1989, making him 19 years old.
He not only was a runner, he was an 8-time winner! Out of 19 starts from ages 2-4, he ran in the money 14 times, that's 74% ... which is REALLY high.
Looking at his Track Record, he broke his maiden in his first race, which is also unusual.
Regardless of pole position, this horse broke out of the gate 1st or 2nd in all but 2 races, and in 5 of his 8 wins, he ran wire to wire.
Wow, what a little Hot Rod!
It was also noted that in one of his races, he refused to load, then flipped in the starting gate ... yikes! Then also went on to run in that race, but was pulled up.
He ran his last race at age 4 at Arlington Park, Illinois in 1993, and now Katie and I will try to trace what happened to him in the intervening 15 years. This detective work is really fun!
After getting a good look at him now, it's pretty clear he has not had any handling for many years. But, he is warming up to soft words and touches, and he does like his apples (although, he doesn't know what horse cookies are!).
We will give him a week to just chill, then we'll see what he knows, and go from there!
Here he is in Katie's arena, looking for a soft spot to roll - notice that the dreadlocked lower half of his tail had fallen off by the time he reached California:
I love this picture, he's just been introduced to Katie's barn and see how his eye is locked on to Katie:
And here is Katie's oldest daughter, Demi, with our boy ... he's pretty dinged up and his coat is rough, but with some TLC by Team Cayenne, he will shine like a new penny in no time!
