Hi Amber,
I think the sanctuary you are referring to is Pasado's Safe Haven. But, they get hundreds of requests for people to take their pets, so it's unlikely they will be able to help.
Here's something you can try: Get on Petfinder and look for cat rescues in your general area. Contact each one that handles cats and ask if they have the ability to do a "community listing". If you can call and ask if they can take the cats, you will probably either be ignored or get a call back from some tired, stressed out rescuer with way too many cats who will rip you a new one. I'm sorry to say that, but this time of year, it's fairly common.
Instead, you want to see if they can do a "community listing". Many groups have the ability to post pics and information about pet that need to be rehomed that are NOT part of their own rescue population. This information is uploaded to Petfinder and gives a wide exposure to your pet. Some groups will help you screen people, others will just forward you the applications, some will simply list your contact info and stay out of the process completely. The listing itself is the "community service."
So, when you call or email you need to say, "I saw your cats are listed on Petfinder. I wonder if you have the ability to do a community listing to help me find a new home for my 2 cats. I can send you pictures and descriptions and I would appreciate the exposure that being uploaded to Petfinder would give them. I know not all groups offer this service to the community, but if yours does - or if you think there is any other way you can help me find great homes for them - please call/email/etc."
That should get you through the "cranky, tired, stressed out filter". Don't give them drama or a "sob story" - believe me, they've heard it all - they're likely to ask the situation since our primary goal is to keep cats in their homes - just give them the simple straight facts of the situation and what you've done so far.
Wish I could help, but we're two states away and cranky, tired, and stressed out ourselves.
Caly
