I think only the safe and sane are here the fruitloops must not have been invited. Not saying that owning a bunch of horses with the cost of feed now a days is really sane ;d. At least to some but I love being a horsey person.

GREAT to see you calgal!! Speaking of familiar faces, I'm kind of afraid to ask about this but what happened to some of our very involved old CBER members such as Foxie?

Hey you welcome! Pam is our hoof specialist here at PEC and they don't get any better!
She has worked magic on so many of the CBER horses that came here with nasty horrible hoof issues!

Does anyone remember who the member was that during the wind storm her barn went down? And was she out side of Potlatch? The feeder at the arena told me that there was a member of CBRES out side of Potlatch,Ida and that there barn blow down , but he couldn't remember her name. my barn did blow down in the storm as cybercat said. but i live in ephrata , wa.

Hi Tina!! Welcome!!! did you get that barn back up? and how's your hubby's shoulder???

I don't think it was a barn, more like a big run in shelter they had. It was damaged in a really bad windstorm. I'm not sure it they were able toi repair it before her hubby hurt his shoulder. Her horses all look fuzzy enough.

hi beth and tockita. my barn/shelter whatever you want to call it. depends on who you ask around here..lol..it is still laying out in the pasture. we have that 10 acres closed off to the horses. They are all extremely fuzzy. they gather up by my house where there are some trees for some wind break. we have only had one night with really bad winds. So it has been okay for the horses. I am unable to get out there and take that thing apart. The guys at work were gonna come help but it has been so dang cold they don't want to come out <i don't blame them either> My husband cannot go out and even attempt to take it apart. he is in so much pain these days it is insane. Speaking of him, he had his surgery Dec 6th. he has not had any movement since then. last wed. they knocked him out for 15 minutes and manipulated his shoulder for him. they were trying to break up all the scar tissue. he woke up crying in pain. i took him directly to PT. the hospital gave roy 2 percacets and 2 doses of demarol and he was still in pain! the PT guy really hurt him as well. roy has gained some movement in his shoulder now but his should rolls back and locks up. when he was at PT on friday, they heard something rip. so yeah, things are not going well on his shoulder. he went to a new doc friday morning for his neck. this accident he had over a year ago caused roy to have 2 torn Rotator cuffs, a buldged disc in his neck and 6 separated ribs. he is still suffering from being crushed by the backhoe. he goes in tuesday for a catscan and something else for his neck. he has a sever ringing in his ear that is driving him insane. the doc thinks it is tied to his neck. they are thinking he will be having surgery on his neck soon. so yeah, my life is very busy as i am the only one who can do things around here.

Oh well, crap. I'm sorry Tina! damned accidents can mess you up good. The horses will be fine with some wind break... I'm sure they have plenty of fuzz!! hehe... Mine are shedding!!! we have had WAY too warm of weather lately. It's funny NOW, but in a few weeks they say we may be back to winter here... THEN I'm gonna be blanketing everyone!! Grrrrrrr...
Hang in there... Roy will owe you big time when he feels better!!!! Until then... Percocet is his friend I'm sure... and do that PT! No pain, no gain... unfortunately. the 'ripping' thing unfortunately is probably a good thing right now, the scar tissue in there has to tear... then it will free up. so, don't worry about the popping and tearing 'sounds', they are a good thing. He doesn't want to have surgery again to let the doc tear it... it's better to do it himself.

Hi! I'm new. I'm not involved in horse rescue (yet!) but do run a guinea pig rescue. I think of them as my indoor horses!
I live in Auburn, WA. I have several old horses and some young ones, too. I'm not quite sure how I ended up here, but it's been very interesting and heartwarming. I have a couple of "stoopid" questions--
What's bail? What's QT?
Thanks!
Lisa

Hi Lisa! Welcome to our group! I don't care how you got here, but am glad that you registered and come in to check us out....We love our horses, your horses, any horses...and some of us own them, and others are still waiting for their chance to rescue one. We have Adopted Horse Categories where you can add threads for your own babies, and yes, there's even a place where you can tell us about the guinea pig rescue! (Where were you 2 years ago when I needed guinea pig advice?) We had four, now all gone to piggie Heaven, but boy they were funny...(stinky) but so sweet...
And don't be shy about asking questions. We gets lots of them and even us oldtimers have questions...(don't ask me about saddles or bridles though..I have mini horses and know nothin' about tack- yet...) We talk about bail when there are horses that need to be adopted from the CBER website....that is the Columbia Basin Equine Rescue in WA...they rescue may horses out of a feedlot, where the owner ships horses to slaughter. There is a price on each horse that CBER lists and that is the adoption price or "Bail"... we try to help potential adopters by donating funds to "bail" those horses out of the feedlot before the slaughter truck comes. When you hear us mentioning "THE TRUCK", we are referring to the feedlot truck...Most of the other rescues that we are becoming friendly with do not work quite the same way...they get rescues from auctions, relinquishments, mustangs, PMU horses, etc.... so many different ways. QT stands for Quarantine...the CBER feedlot horses (and any horses, frankly) need to go through quarantine anywhere from 30-90 days before being released with other horses...there are some "superbug bacteria and viruses" in the horse world these days. And to transport horses out of state, they have to pass health inspections... The fundraising for CBER has been the most intricate and timely, but once you follow a couple of the horses threads, you will get comfortable with how we've been doing it... so read some of the threads, and ask away, OK? We know it takes a while to absorb it all...horse rescue is very complex, as I have learned too...
I'm so glad you're here,
Leanne

Ah!! I'm finally feeling a bit more back in the loop. Thanks cybercat for giving me the link. I was going insane! I'm not sure all I can do to help (not old enough to drive yet ) so just let me know if anything needs to be done online (or putting up posters and such...) for I can most likely do it (If not my Dad CAN...he's a computer whiz)! I'm glad to see a lot of formiliar faces from CBER!! ~Dusty

So I have been using the board for a couple months. Now I need to stop and ask: What the heck are the exalt and smite buttons for? None appear on my name - how come? What are Karma points and how are they acquired?
Also while confidentiality is a big priority - it would be great to really encourage folks to give their general location. I like the no drama. I like CBER - but wish the posting from our local feedlot rescuers (NorCAL) got more air time. Maybe I will call them and see if they could do some posting. It really makes sense to get all your local people involved instead of having to ship horses all over - if possible. Those monies could better be spent probably. Thanks for all the great work and net-working - cant wait to meet some folks at watermarkfarms potluck!

If someone likes something you've said or done, you are exalted. If you are bad, you are smited (smitten?). If one of the admins REALLY likes you (or if you ask nicely ) they'll give you a gazillion points. You can't see your E|S buttons because you can't exalt ot smite yourself, silly! I exalt you!

Hi AFN, I just exalted you too! It's just one of those silly things to do on the board, like counting how many posts a person has made, or calling them "Super Pooper Scooper" or "Barn Manager"! Looking forward to the 19th of May!

I am supplementing my daily intake of rescuesonly.com with the daily message from Joe at tbfriends.com/index.php They rescue from the feedlots in Roseville and Elk Grove in the Sacramento area. They rescue LOT of animals - mostly really beautiful thoroughbreds and his morning messages are delightful - with 2 new pics each day.

Thank goodness for this place. I just came into the world of horse rescue late last week at another board that shall remain unnamed. Talk about drama! YIKES!!!
I will introduce myself later this week. For now, I just wanted to thank you for this place.

LW68 - Welcome, we appreciate you joining us here! Wholeheartedly agree that the TWR BB can be toxic at times. Here, we are very focused on the horses, minus the drama.
Many rescues to support here, take your pick!

Hi, I am new. I am a horse mommy and self proclaimed "horse addict" I have four precious horse girls that are my morld, after my three kids and my finace (who, thank God has infinite patience with my horse habit). I currently have one rescue who will be with me for the rest of my life, and my other three girls were born pampered and spoiled. I am anxious to do anything I can to help since so many are in such a horrible position right now and my family is holding its own in tough times Please let me know, all, what help is needed.
