I'm glad to hear that 7-12 horses are being adopted every week. That's great news for the horses!
But, can somebody clarify something for me? Does this mean CBER gets between $1,050 - $1,800 a week in fees and Sam is making $2,100 - $3,600 in QT fees?
That would add up to $4,200 - $7,200 in CBER fees and $8,400 - $14,400 in QT fees per MONTH.
If this is true I'm in the wrong business.

This will be my last post also on this thread. I am not judging how everyone spends their money. I never have. I am judging how much is being charged for the horses in total. I am not saying any horse has more value in being saved than another. I don't recall saying that at all. I HAVE adopted a horse through Cber. I have adopted another horse through SoS, which I wonder now if I WILL EVEN BE ABLE TO GET! The only thing I have said is that it would be nice if there was a choice in quarantine. You want the choice to have it done elsewhere, some want the choice to do it themselves. Why is your choice more important than someone else's. We are adults and hopefully are responsible enough to take responsibility for choices we make in our own lives. I have never bashed on SOS or the rates the are charging either for the horses or their fees. They seem fair to me. Yet somehow I am being painted as doing that. What is wrong with questioning the policy of Cber? What is wrong with stating facts about the actual cost of a horse? As for my friend and the horse Mr. Magoo, she was told she could bring him back and that would not be a problem as someone else wanted him. She agonized over what to do, she felt really bad that he would not work out because he was kicking out at her DOGS. Her dogs do not chase horses nor do they bite them. They go riding with the dogs with no problem all of the time. Any reputable rescue will take back horses that do not work out. She is now being painted as a bad guy for returning him and telling the person who was interested exactly what her experience and opinion of him was. She is a very honest person and will not sell a horse to someone if she thinks it is not the right fit. She tells exactly what the horses issues are if they have any. So now she is a bad person? She was tolfd she ruined his chances of getting a home. Would you want someone to lie to you about their horse if you were thinking of buying it? Anyway, You can paint me as a bad guy for asking questions too. And say that the above things I referred to are something I actually think, ie about only certain horses being saved, and judging about how people spend their money. My whole point consisted of quarantine and markup and how to get these horses into homes without bankrupting all of the kind hearts who want to save them. Yeah you are all a bunch of dummies, that is hardly what I said. Geesh I am editing to add that Sam wanted my friends credit card number so that she could charge for ANY MEDICAL NEEDS THAT THE HORSE NEEDED WHILE IN QUARANTINE. THAT IS IN DIRECT OPPOSITION TO WHAT SAM JUST STATED ABOUT WHAT WAS INCLUDED IN QUARANTINE. IN ADDITION SHE WANTED TO CHARGE FOR BRAND INSPECTION, COGGINS, ETC WHICH IS NOT NEEDED FOR CROSSING TO OREGON FROM WASHINGTON AND TO BE PAID FOR BEING THERE FOR SAID INSPECTION, COGGINS ETC. My friend is a vet tech at an equine vet, she is also a trainer and gives lessons. She is very familiar with how the horse world works, not just some nooby beginner that knows nothing. Sam was also giving antibiotics to the pregnant mare which are known to cause BIRTH DEFECTS. Anyway..

Well that would explain things....the feedlot where he came off of, has a dog that hides under the horse feeders and then when the horses are relaxed eating, the dog comes out and bites their legs! He has done this to many horses on the feedlot. d**n dog!!

Ok Ok, we all need to take a DEAP breath here. Yes horses prices are going up, and it is VERY difficult for everyone, I just dont know what we can really do about anything, if we have Sam lower the prices CBER may not last much longer, she needs to give proper care the the horses. So please dont bash against people, all my experiences with Sam were great and she is a great person, sometimes we just get people on an off day, so can we just start over, shake it off, these horses really need us right now and their fates are not looking so good

Wow wee... I have had to sit back and reread this thread many times just to digest everything that was being said and try to look at all the views with an open mind. I am new to the "adoption" world, and I guess just a little disappointed by what was intended, I hope, as a start of innocent conversation regarding QT options by supposed adults. If there are concerns regarding QT then why not discuss that with your perspective rescue and try to work out a personalized plan of action? Possibly a shorter QT period after a site check by the rescue? I think there are ways around this without the bashing and slandering that seems to be going on. I have seen first hand the amount of time and effort that Sam puts into CBER. I have seen her work 7 days a week, sometimes 10 to 15 hours a day and put her personal life on hold while she puts her heart into these horses. I do not believe for a second that Sam is in this to "make a buck", I am sure there are days she would love to have a regular 8 to 5 job with weekend and holidays off. Hers is a thankless job that she does out of love and concern. And where is ours for her? If you believe that she or CBER are charging too much, why not volunteer to spend 48 hours in her shoes and work side by side. I guarantee after that time you would have a different view of what it actually takes to make it all work. From Sam's place to the FL it is approximately 45 minutes one way (I too live in Yakima and have traveled that route). The cost of fuel is sky-high as well as insurance, maintenance and daily wear and tear of the vehicle and trailer. These things do not come free. I am the proud mommy of two CBER horses and would not have thought for one minute about bringing them home before I felt that they were "safe" to be around the horses already at my home. Would you bring your human baby home from the hospital if it was not advised just to save a couple of bucks? I think not. My view on adopting a slaughter bound horse is that it is a huge commitment not to be taken lightly, the rates are posted with each horse when it is listed, think the rate is too high? Look elsewhere. I hope everyone sits back and takes a breather. This really is very disappointing and heartbreaking. Aren't we in this to save the horses? Aren't we really losing focus right now as to what is important? What about the horses still at the lot? We have lost valuable time today ranting and bickering about things that can be taken care of once the horses are safe. Maybe I have had the wrong impression of all of this all along, I hope not, I believe in this cause, and ALL of the rescues that are trying to accomplish the same goal of SAVING THE HORSES and would hate to see it unravel due to either not knowing how to communicate or being too d**n stubborn to try and see both sides of the fence. I mean no disrespect to anyone involved, I haven't been around this long enough to even know anyone to pass judgment, I just think that as adults we could possibly find a better solution. Just my two cents. Carrie
