First off, hello everyone! I was invited to the board to get some of the latest 'tidbits' on the happenings of CBER. I've been browsing through the posts a little bit, and it looks like I'll have some nice stuff to write my story on CBER for Cinch Magazine (www.cinchmagazine.com).
Anyway, if anyone has any other information (stick to known facts, please!) that might be useful (especially past/current volunteers), please share your stories with me!
Thanks in advance!

welcome and thanks for helping. I do believe CBER needs to be shut down there are way too many horses and people that have had problems with them. There 501 needs to go until all is out in the open.

We are hoping to get everything together in the next month or so (and possibly get a release date during the summer) *crossing fingers*. I too, am outraged by what I have heard about the CBER and I hope our article will further spread awareness and protect those who believe they are donating to a reputable rescue.

Have you read the post "Why we left CBER"? There are several stories there with information from past volunteers as to what they experienced while volunteering for CBER.

You may also want to connect with some people on the ICERS board as well. There are quite a few people on that board who also have a lot to say about CBER: forums.delphiforums.com/ICERS

Just to be fair, I hope you will talk to people that have had a positive experience with CBER, because as hard as it might be to believe after reading all of the negative on this board and from the "old" posts on Fugly and the other threads youv'e been directed to, there are many, many happy endings from people with success stories from CBER, myself included . Remember, there are two sides to every story!

Remember, there are two sides to every story! There are a lot of happy endings. I adopted a bunch of CBER horses and am glad for each one. The problem was never the CBER horses, but rather the workings of some of the people involved in it. Not *ALL* the people, just some of them... and unfortunately when those people are high enough ranking and allowed to continue for long enough, it damages the organization itself rather then just the individual people who it ought to.

I agree with Tash. There have been many happy endings. But any of the good that CBER did was forever tainted with their practice of returning horses to slaughter, taking them back to auction, sending them to Waynes. NO real rescue would EVER do that.
I too have CBER rescues. They do not know how lucky they were. But I do.

Remember, there are two sides to every story! Like Tash and Lorsadoon wrote, I also happen to have an amazingly happy ending and great success story with my CBER adoption. I have an incredibly talented TB who is now winning ribbons in the show ring, and her equally incredible baby who will follow in her show ring hoofsteps. I am so very lucky to have them and wouldn't trade them for anything. However, I also happen to know FIRST HAND about the lies and deception behind the scenes that has gone on for years and apparently continues to go on. Many of us here are former volunteers who wanted to help CBER. We all left for pretty much the same reasons. This isn't about happy endings, success stories, and hearts and flowers, it's about a rescue organization that is dishonest and is known to send horses to slaughter. Where is the success story in that?

As a 501(c)3 rescue also, we can verify that we have re-rescued horses which have been placed by CBER. These horses were in desperate need of help, and CBER did nothing. One particularly case where there were several horses involved and eventually turned into a court case (beastiality) CBER again did NOTHING to help these horses. ((Individuals stepped up and took these horses in.) CBER should not now or ever be entitiled to a 501(c)3 status. It is evident that CBER is a "take the money and run" operation. That is not how any legitimate rescue operates.

Ha! Are Sam and Chuck in the Soylent Green business now?
Website and BB up. Doesn't look like Sam's listed any new horses in a while.
I hope this is because people are choosing to rescue locally rather than sending money off to Chuck.

Tash--Do you remember Reddy, my CBER rescue that I boarded at Mecca for a while? I am not defending CBER, but just pointing out that sometimes, good comes out of nowhere and inspite of the fact that perhaps you were taken advantage, isn't the end of the world, but perhaps just the beginning. My adoption of Jeramy (who became Reddy thanks to my grandson) it the best thing that ever happened to me. I fell in love with his face on the CBER rescue site and never looked back. Maybey at $745 plus quarantine I paid too much, but then again, to me, he is priceless and I helped him survive a life-threatening injury about a year ago. To explain this YouTube, I was going to name him Cherokee, until my grandson came up with "Reddy". www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gu1UbWOlNlc
