Hey everyone... I am looking for a small pony or other suitable companion to place with my senior mare. I have to separate her from the others (6) because they push her around and will not allow her to eat and keeping up her weight is an ongoing issue, I cannot put her in a stall because she starts to stove up with standing long periods. Even when turned out to pasture she stays away from the herd. I want her to have a companion but one I know will not push her around. A pony, mini or donkey that is in retirement is perfect but it can't be a full sized horse. One suitable for the grandkids (1 1/2 and 5) to love on or occasionally be walked around on would be nice. Anyone who knows of a suitable companion please contact me, thanks

Hi Belinda, I'll keep my eyes open for a sweet pony. Have you considered a goat as companion? I do not know how easily a goat is to get, but it might be fun to have one around. Joe and Mo (Rocking Z) just got the sweetest goat with kids and I officially love goats now! Just a thought.

Hey Caryn, I am open to whatever will work.... I feel for Bree, she will not even walk by the others to get to an unoccupied space to eat. I will update on our rescue when I have a chance, but know we are still trying to make things work here in Livermore. Placed one but still too many rescues to take on much more til the projects get done.

my mom has a mini for sale right now. but he's in utah. I'm working with him and he's a sweetie, but he's 11 and still a stallion, but has never bred.(of course if he was to be a mares companion he'd need to be gelded). he is sooooooo cute. a red varnish roan and about 32 inches. he's good around kids, dogs, and other horses. he's being boarded and just hanging out by himself right now:( I might bring him back to california with me. mini SOLD

where are you located? I have two mini donkeys that I would free lease, but they have to stay together. They are kind, sweet, and totally kid friendly. (horse friendly as well)

Saw this ad on BAEN under "ranch animals". May be worth checking out: Free pygmy goat to a good home, My daughter owns a pygmy goat, called Sunshine, who currently lives at a 4-H ranch in Cupertino. Sunshine is 8 years old, and not in show quality anymore, she also has a slight limp. Other than that, she is in good health and could be a great companion animal, and help with grazing too. We are offering her for free to a good home where she will be taken care of and can enjoy her retirement years., 408-252-7378, Send e-mail to advertiser, Send this ad to a friend, AD ID: 117135, Cupertino, CA, Submitted On: 03/26, Revised: 03/30 MTA: There are quite a few other ads for goats that are "free to a good home" on BAEN. I'd send them to you, but I can't find your email addy

Belinda, I have an older gelding who is sweet and might be a fit to go with her. I find that the older ones sometimes prefer a horse of the opposite gender to marry... :-) he has a hip issue, but is sweet as the day is long, and loves kids... reasonable bare feet (needs every 6 week trims as his feet grow very fast) and can be ridden by small ones for lead line I'm sure... has a missing upper tooth and long opposing lower tooth so needs watching dental wise (I can give you more info on that) Rocket is his name... oh, he eats orchard grass, and is a very respectful guy at dinner time.

What about Caly's mare Angel? She might be a good fit also.

What about Caly's mare Angel? She might be a good fit also. Angel is pretty pushy when she had someone she can push around. But, Rosy is the absolute opposite of an alpha and would be a perfect fit. Here's her thread: rescuesonly.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=2401&page=4I know you said it couldn't be full-size horse, not sure if you reason goes beyond being pushy. Rosy is very, very sweet. Very co-operative on the ground. She's tall (16HH) but very narrow so she "feels" petite. She's gentle with other horses and is a zeta horse. Can be ridden lightly, but doesn't need to be. Needs to not be in a stall for her mental wellbeing. Jtjedi has her right now and can fill you in on more specifics of her day to day behavior/care.

I heard of several minis and 2 pinto shetlands that need homes. If interested, I could get you her number. The owner is a client, runs a non profit riding center for handicapped children.

Yesterday, at the Arlington, WA Co--op there was an ad for a free older pony mare, very cute little paint by the way to a good home, the pony did look like a little old gal shetland size, but they stated can still be used for light riding by kids, they also state the mare was very well behaved. The contact is 360 631 9157

I can also check with my Aunt, she's been trying to place her older appy mare for awhile and she's very gentle and sound about half the time(more if she's kept in a dry place). Located in Alameda, free.

Are you still looking for a mini horse? Where my Aunt boards her horse there is a lady looking for a good home for a little mini. Don't know anything about it but I could give you her number and they are in Livermore. Let me know! Tina

Don't forget to also check the "rescue/rehome" section on BAEN. There seem to be a lot of nice giveaways available that may be a good fit in case the one you are looking at tomorrow isn't.
