This is my neck of the woods, so if someone is interested and wants pics or for me to do a first look, let me know.
I also need to make one tiny comment about making assumptions. I don't know what this person's situation is, but s/he refers to not being able to afford them twice. I don't know that we can really assume that s/he took them without thinking - his/her situation may have changed dramatically. And, this is NOT directed at gypsyrn - I've seen this type of comment many times in the recent past.
Personally speaking - that is exactly the situation in which I find myself. I do big computer installations (business process re-engineering, software selection, tactical implementation, etc) NO ONE is buying them now, so my work has contracted to nearly zero. Meanwhile I am working 4 jobs to try to stay afloat. I am teetering on needing to rehome my own horses - and have been on that edge for the past 3 months. Low work, and 3 emergency visits in 3 weeks...... I'm constantly asking myself if I'm truly a responsible owner when I'm living so close to the edge. But friends keep reminding me of two things - my horses have everything they need, and giving them up is a permanent solution to a (hopefully) temporary situation. But, if the time comes and I see I have no other choice - it won't be because I've "bailed" but rather because I hope to find a more stable situation for them. I'm in shock to find myself in this situation - my work has always been recession-proof in the past. But, this is no ordinary recession. So, let's think twice before jumping to conclusions about people's commitment to their horses. There but for the grace of God.....
*stepping off my soapbox now*

I understand what you are saying and agree that situations can change - especially in the current ecomoney and finances especially change in a hurry. Many of us have had not so good times as of late, myself included..... I lost my house. It was not intended as a judgement at all... but often the idea of having horses is very different from the realty, and the time commitment as well is not considered, especially those persons with little or no experience being fully responsible for the animal. We all know of such circumstances and many have horses from these situations as a result. I think we will see more of it and more "free" horses will end up on the truck ride to slaughter, as we all have limits to our time and money.
