These two are still available for sale. I have them listed in the Rescues needing good homes section. We have had some interest in Turtle but for the most part they are all brand new riders that dont know much or have not had any lessons. Bless his heart he has been as good as gold with all of them. However, I just dont feel that a beginner rider would be a good fit as I know that he can learn to take advantage of somebody and I dont want to see anybody or Turtle have a bad experience. So, if there is anyone that knows of somebody that is looking for good horses and they are not a beginner rider I am still looking for good homes for my boys. We are negotiable on Sampsons price somewhat if we know its a good fit. Neither horse will be given away or rehomed for "free" as I am finding that the ones that want horses for free also dont have any money to feed them.......

Michelle,
When you do find buyers for these two, please consider putting a Right of First Refusal clause that includes a monetary penalty if it's not honored. I know you will be really careful about screening buyers, and a legitimate buyer won't have a problem signing a contract with that clause.

I will do that, I really think that I might write a book "The Adventures in Horse Selling" Of the four potential buyers that I have had I have only really liked one and thought she had good good horse sense. To bad that she was intimidated by Turtle's size I would have loved to see her place and gotten references on her I bet she would have been a good one. The others have either not completely read the ad and been as green as grass or have been all knowing and never let me get a word in edge wise, or made an appointment and not shown up. Gotta love people. My co-workers think Im being too picky, I dont, I think my gut feeling goes a long way to keeping my boys safe.

Michelle, I would definitely listen to your gut feeling! You know your boys better than anyone, and you want the best for them. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it. It took me 2 years to find the perfect home for the 2 Mustangs, and I'm very happy with the choice I made. They are happy as can be, and are continuing getting trained, while being able to roam 40 acres with other horses.

I had a nice couple come out with the friend that they would be boarding turtle and boy did all of them look him over from top to bottom which I thought was good. Both ladies have been riding for all their lives and the gal that is looking to buy has been without a horse for a couple of years but did well on Turtle. Turtle of course loved all over them and when they left both women had horse snot all over them from him. I felt good about them when they left and should be hearing from them today one way or the other. Sounds like they ride a lot which is the kind of home that I would love for turtle to be in. He just doesnt get ridden enough with me. So I am crossing my fingers that this will be a good fit and then I will go see where he will be living and go from there.

Well, my little Turtle almost has a new home. We took both boys to the Tacoma Unit last night so that the lady that is interested in turtle could ride one more time and she fell in love with him. She would have taken him last night but we are leaving out of town this weekend and dont want to have Sampson left alone all weekend without his buddy. Turtle will now be getting all the attention that he deserves and being ridden on a much more consistent basis then with me. I am happy for her and also for Turtle. We will deliver him probably the weekend after Labor Day. As it all turns out one of her friends was interested in Sampson so we will see how that goes.

Its official, Turtle is sold to a new family that will love and ride him. They also may take his buddy Sampson to be used as a childs horse. Still pending on the decision on Sampson but I would be very happy if both boys stayed together.

Saturday will be a very hard day for me emotionally, I feel very lucky that the people that are taking Turtle are knowledgeable and will care for him as much as I do. I will be very happy if Sampson could go to the same place, we will see on that one. On one hand I would like to keep him as my riding horse, but those kids really took to him and he just loved all the attention from them so that would be a good home for him too. I will keep you all posted.

It's always hard to give up your 'babies', but you waited till you found the right family.....and I'm sure they'll let you visit..........You did the right thing by them.

They did say that I could come out and visit and even ride occaisionally, which I might just take them up on. At least I can get a "fix" of horses from time to time.

Well, I am completely horseless for the first time in 30+ years. Sampson sold today to the same family that bought Turtle.

Glad they got to go together, and that you have a chance to go visit them. It's gotta be hard not having them around.

Its a little bit like a death in the family, I appreciate the new owners letting me come and visit.l Not sure my heart could take seeing them again and knowing that they are not mine,. I think that I will give myself some time before I make that choice.
