Piopico, Mr. Piopico, and I went to visit Rosy and Champ yesterday. The camera settings were off so the pics are a bit fuzzy but since it's too far to go grab new pictures right away, they'll have to do.
Both of them look great and very happy! They are both out on a huge, irrigated pasture and loving it. The pics are too fuzzy to see well, but both of them are holding weight well. Rosy has had no incidences of lameness or gimpiness so I think being on pasture really agrees with her. Champ is holding weight well on 100% pasture. He'll be monitored closely once winter arrives and be supplemented if he needs it. But, they arrived in the dead of winter last year, and both did well.
Rosy has a brood of mares she hangs out with. She is no longer bottom of the heap or shut down. She still very sweet, but more animated and engaged. I think she's very happy.
Champ has a BFF - another old gelding - and they are always hip to hip. Helen says he's still got a lot of 'tude on the ground, but he was sweet as could be to me (us). I got a bit cocky and asked piopico "hey, c'mere and give me a leg up." Helen called, "That's on you!" as piopico hoisted me up on him - no helmet, no tack, nada LOL! (Oh, c'mon - if he'd dumped me, look at what I would have landed on! That pasture is as lush and deep as it looks!) We went for a bit of a walk, with piopico right there in case he started to act out. But, I think he was a happy boy to have someone on him again and he strolled along good as gold.
