Tears of rain sadness creeps in with ni intended rush, like a raincloud on a slow summers day, blanketing earth with grayness Enveloping me it looms. I try to shake it, but it stays. menacingly, it hovers over me making my shoulders bend, my spirits droop The weight is to much, the shadow is to black and tears begin to trickle slowly. Like the raincloud, the build and finally burst, Soaking the ground with sorrow But tears, though a sign of sadness are healing Like the rain, Tears sem cheerless and depressing, But they nuture a new beginning Today is a sad day while we planned for smokeys last day to be his birthday he failed to make it that long went out to feed and smokey while walking was running blood very severly from his nose and peni he was not even trying to go pe it was just a steady flow i called my vet to come and check on him and go ahead and release him from his body i knew he was ready he walked up to me and laid his head on my shoulder and just sighed a huge sigh and that alone told me he was ready he was tired of fighting to hang on. so in his passing he knew he was home and he knew he was loved again. he is know with his mom and dad who we owned for most of there lives in our families. i could go on about smokey and i have scanned a few pics of him and will share one of my favorite I took this pic at the moment he seemed to remeber who were were and that we loved him even though he had been through hell and back he was know home and he is know in heavens green fields to see this pic you could not tell anything was wrong with him

Saying goodbye to a loved one is ever so difficult. I hope that knowing he is healthy and running with his friends in green pastures comforts you as you grieve his loss.

You gave me a vision of what life is to be You showed me the world What i was to see You promised me love and i promised you love too Said you'd always be there , to lend me a hoof to show each other we care we rode through the days never rushing our rides We cherished our time For the time was well spent Then suddendly one day you weren't by my side You were gone forever I rushed thropugh the days By myself all alone cherished our memories although my angers grown Then one day i thought of you And sighed a bitter sigh The long awaited sadness Pierced my heart and then i cried I cried for all the dreams that people have these days I cried because i had a dream and then it slipped away I cried because a love like ours was always meant to last to endure throughout eternity The present, the future, the past and although I wouldn't have changed it In my heart i know its true a lesson learned the hard way was the price of letting you go
today is hard because smokey was so special to us and we will cherish the fact that we did find him before his time was up. things never go the way we plan them and smokey held out for us as long as he could

I'm sorry, it is so hard, even when we know it is the right thing to do. take care of yourself, Smokey knows how much you love him...... and he's grateful that you were strong enough to let him go with dignity. Beth

we bred smokeys dam and sire our family owned them when we were younger and then years ago things went wrong in our family things beyond our control and we thought we found smokey a great home they sold him and would not tell us to who and last year we found smokey at an auction yard and made a deal before he went through with the broker who had him. he was skinny and sickly and very afraid of people

I am really happy that Smokey had a good final year with you. That's the best that any horse can hope for, is to be loved in his last days.

Oh, so sorry. But I am happy you were able to find him and love him before he went. I have always hoped to be able to provide the same to my old horse, though being 33 now, I am losing hope. Rest in peace, Smokey.

Sweet Smokey, what a fortunate soul to have found your real family again and spend the rest of your life with them. May you run free in green pastures and reunite with your mom and dad.
C, thank you for the love and life you gave this wonderful horse. Your loss and pain is great. I cannot imagine your sadness, and I am so sorry for your suffering. But what you gave this boy is great and so important for all of us to remember - no matter how old, no matter how scared, no matter how imperfect, no matter how scarred and scraped and bruised - I believe every horse has a person waiting for them - to love them, feed them, care for them, respect them, and honor them. The gifts are great ... we just have to listen, be patient, and do the right thing. C, you did the right thing. You were Smokey's special person.

You said it just right tireddog. So very sorry for your loss. It doesn't matter how many times we go through it- it is so difficult and it is the price we pay for loving SO MUCH. You are in our thoughts blazin and you were her ANGEL. I wish every horse could be so lucky. God Bless.
