I responded to an ad in BAEN for a bay thoroughbred mare who was on a feedlot and needed $750.00 to be saved. Nanci Knight responded to my inquiry, and the rest is history! Not only did I end up adopting the beautiful TB I was inquiring about, I also ended up gaining a wonderful new friend in Nanci. Nanci, thank you for posting the ad and responding to my inquiry. The happiness this has brought can not be measured. ~Jen I even kept all the emails she sent. Call me sentimental...

Dittoes, back at ya, Jen!
It certainly takes a remarkable person to open one's heart (and wallet) to save a life, from two states away! It was a major risk, but with immeasurable reward! **
And of course, we all know the "rest of the story"...when you adopted Jamaica, little did we realize that it was a 2-fer package, and along came adorable Sir Prize in September, making me God Mother to TWO beautiful CBER rescues.
I also am grateful for the friendship that has developed over the past year. One of these days, we're going to takes our TBs on a trail ride together, maybe we can make that a resolution for 2007 !?!
** By the way, I admire ALL of you who have adopted from CBER!

I was drawn to CBER through a BAEN ad too! It was for a little black mustang named Gibson. I wasn't ready to take the plunge and before I could bring myself to apply, Gibson was lost to shipment. It was horrible and really kicked my butt in gear. I was pledging, volunteering and fostering my first horse within 2 months. Of course, I adopted my little foster before she even got here It's amazing how easy it is to fall in love with a picture. 2 CBER horses later and I consider myself blessed for knowing them and all of you. Thanks to whoever put up that add.

And we are so happy to have you here.
my first horse I fell in love with on CBER was an old bay Quarterhorse named Sarge. I saw his picture, and knew he wasn't ready to leave this earth. So I bailed him, and a wonderful lady is taking care of him, and he is thriving. I know have 1.5 other CBER horses, one is here, the other one I get to meet next week, and then we'll decide what is best for him Arrow has brought so much to my life, and I love him to pieces.

I have little Jade who I bought only a few hours before the truck was scheduled to come and Vegas who was purchased through a huge group effort while I was at the Doctor's office. Imagine coming home and finding you now have a great big palomino. She looks like Annie Oakley's horse and Annie was my secret friend growing up. I am not much of a horsewoman but Kate helps me. I am learning the "correct" way to lead a horse. My old horse just walked behind us when I was a kid. I am so happy to find this board. I believe in all of you people and know that the truth and goodness will prevail. We must be the voice for the horses. Diane

I am enjoying reading about everyone's "first love". We are fortunate to have been brought together by our love of horses and our desire to help as many as we can. Getting to know you all and working with you is a bonus. While I realize we are now moving on to embrace other horse rescues, we would not be here if it weren't for CBER... I raise my glass to my current and future horse rescue commrades.

I grew up in Seattle and there was a horse rental place about a mile from us. I used to save all my allowance and go for little rides on the weekends. My parents about had a heart attack when I showed up on our front lawn ( I had ridden through traffic ) on a horse. After I begged and threatened a hunger strike I got to take riding lessons. I can remember my father saying good, the grocery bill will be less ;D When I was 12 I got my first. A big stubborn Q.H. Stallion. He had belonged to my uncle and had never even had a halter on him. Great,,, he was gelded. I was dumped, kicked, bit, rubbed off on a tree. This horse was still my best friend! Funny how landing never hurt when you were young!

Growing up, my older sister (just bailed Sparkle) was completely horse crazy. She got a job cleaning stalls at a polo pony ranch in our neighborhood to be with horses. I became friends with their kids so I actually got to ride! Ha!

I'm at my one year anniversary for being a CBER donater. I saw an ad on Craigs List and followed the link. My first donation was to Cannon Run who reminded me so much of my own big red gelding. I couldn't beleive that someone had used him up and then tossed him like a tissue into the feedlot. This year has been very educational. I have been a volunteer for dog rescue groups but didn't realize the need for horse rescue was so widespread. I think the Craig's List and BAEN ads do a great job of educating people.

One year ago today, I picked Layla up & brought her home. It was storming horribly and it took me 14 hours to make a 5 hour round trip. We left at about 10 in the morning and arrived home at midnight. I would do it all over again. She & Shadow have been such a joy and Layla is the best horse alarm I have ever had. She calls out the minute anyone walks or drives onto the property. Shes a funny girl.
